Title, Plot and Narrative Structure

Sofia Storm is a superhero comic based on a girl who was struck by

lightning as a child; she fell into a coma and awoke with strange new
abilities. She uses these abilities to get herself out of trouble and help out
fellow citizens of Storm Town which is where she lives. Storm Town is prone
to getting hurricanes and many other natural disasters. Sofias special
powers are weather control which gives her the ability to control the weather
from lightning, torrential rain, hurricanes, snow, beaming hot sun to snow.
Sofia also has one more special power and that is her ability to control the
elemental powers of the earth, she is strong and indestructible like the
earth.

In the extract I will be producing, news has come out that Storm Town are
expecting a hurricane which is coming with rain and 200mph winds Sofia
Storm is determined to put a stop to the hurricane before its too late. The
story will follow this plot and the narrative structure will follow the Three Act
Structure, Act 1 being the beginning this is where the information is set up to
provide further context for the story, it will then carry on to Act 2 this is the
middle where characters attempt to achieve goals but then encounter
conflict or disruption. The story will then finish with the end which will be
where theres a resolution to the conflict that is occurring, this tends to
reveal the characters super powers and in this case Sofia Storms super
powers will be shown.

In terms of characters, Sofia Storm is the main character the additional

characters are the citizens of Storm Town these characters are non-specific
and have no identity theyre just addressed as citizens.
Target Audience
The target audience of Sofia Storm will range from females of the ages 13-
18, this comic really focuses on teenage girls with an interest in super
natural, science fiction, superheroes and solving mysteries. There is a huge
gap in the market for something like Sofia Storm due to the fact there are a
lot less female superior comics out there than there are male superior
comics. The target audience will look up to Sofia Storm as a strong
independent female superhero as they will be at that education stage where
theyre in school or college where theres a lot of pressure on girls to be
looked up to. In terms of income, with this target audience their parents will
most likely have disposable income so theyre able to buy the comic or if not
then some could have part time jobs or be looking at the comic in a school
library.

Established Company
The established company I will be publishing the Storm Sofia comic through
is Image Comics the reason for this being is Image Comics have a huge
interest in publishing original content, meaning I will get to retain all rights.
Image Comics also publish a lot of comics that cater to a similar target
audience; this will be good as the target audience would notice the comic on
the site amongst comics that they usually read which could spur them on to
read Storm Sofia.

However, if my comic is declined from Image Comics I will instead use a

self-publishing route and upload digital versions of my comic, which would
reach the target audience due to the fact the target audience are of those
who use and can access the internet regularly.
Copyright
Because the comic is entirely my own work, I will not have to credit anyone
for contribution in terms of royalties. As the comic is my own work it will
be a low production cost for myself as I wont be paying anyone else to do
the work and it can be done in my own scheduled time. Because I am
working for a client, they will have intellectual property rights over what
happens with the finished product. I will also be using non copyright material
if it isnt my own photos they will be royalty free ones.

Ethical
No discrimination or offence to the reader will occur in this comic book. As I
have a female character that is the lead character and is seen as the
superhero this is for the purpose that the target audience can look up to, not
for the purpose of sexism or inequality of male and female. Because there
isnt a male villain in this comic, it isnt seen as dominant male vs
subordinate female like older comics, this is just focused on the female and
she isnt in battle with anyone of the opposite gender. My female character
does not conform to the male gaze theory, due to the target audience being
those of 13-18 I will have to keep the comic fairly PG.

Representation, health and safety, behavior

and violence
The language in my comic will not be offensive or harm the reader. The way
the characters are represented will be accurate and not misleading to cause
no harm to the reader, this also obtains the fact there will be no false
statements or misleading information or facts promoted in this comic.
Content will not cater or glorify crude beliefs and will be PG with no use of
violence or bad language that could offend a reader.
