Nutrient Superhero

Assignment Summary: Whats faster than a speeding bullet? Can leap over
buildings in a single bound? Unfortunately not you. Nutrients, however, are the
closest thing to superheroes that we have. They provide our body with the power
and strength needed to be healthy and strong, although we may be asking too much
if we expect to run faster than a train.
For this assignment you will create a nutrient superhero. This superhero will have
a poster of themselves and a biography page listing all their powers and other facts.

What do you have to do (complete in order, check off as you complete a step):

Choose a Specific Nutrient (choose from the following)

Vitamins Minerals
A Calcium
B12 C Iron
B6 D Magnesium
B1 E Zinc
B2 K Selenium
Folic Acid Iodine

Create a name for a nutrient superhero based on your nutrient.

Using the Learning Process Sheets, research your nutrient answering the
following questions:
1. Illness caused by to little/much of that nutrient
2. Signs/Symptoms of illness
3. Best foods to get nutrient from
4. Any other nutrients needed to help your nutrient be absorbed/used
by the body (Side-Kick)
5. How much should teens get in a day? (Teens/Adults/Kids)

Create a poster of your superhero

Create a stats sheet for your nutrient on the back of your picture.
Include the following information (and more if you can):
1. Name of Superhero
2. What this superhero saves people from
(illness caused by deficiency or too much of a nutrient)
3. How does he know to save people?
(signs/symptoms of illness)
4. What are their super powers?
(how do they get people to not have be sickness?)
5. What are his favourite foods?
(foods high in this specific nutrient)
6. Does your superhero have/need a sidekick?
(are any other nutrients helpful to your nutrient?)
7. Who is he most likely to save? Why?
(Who gets most sick? Why them? )
