Lesson Plan Template #2

Lesson Plan Title: IM2 math support/tutoring (Reese) Lesson Date:

Purpose: To promote thoughtful planning focused on defined outcomes for student learning. Each
component of the lesson plan template helps teachers think comprehensively through the details of a lesson.

Effective lesson design includes the following:
extensive subject matter competence
carefully selected pedagogical practices
thoughtful attention to students academic, linguistic and social-emotional development

Coach: In thinking about your upcoming lesson, what needs to be considered? (Refer to each element and
make sure PT is clear on what each element is requiring. Guide PT in designing lesson plan as appropriate.)

CONTENT STANDARD
What common core or academic content standard (s) will be addressed in this lesson?
Similarity, Right Triangles, and Trigonometry (G-SRT)
Understand similarity in terms of similarity transformations.
Prove theorems involving similarity.
Define trigonometric ratios and solve problems involving right triangles.

CONTENT OBJECTIVE
What content and concepts will students learn? Or What will students know and/or be able to do as a result of
this lesson? These objectives generally contain verbs such as: contrast, analyze, construct, graph,
solve, visualize, design, investigate, locate, or sequence. Students will analyze and investigate angles
or triangles to determine sine, cosine, tangent as well as measurements of sides and angles.

LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE
How will students use language (listening, speaking, reading and/or writing) to engage with the academic
content? How will students interact and/or write during the lesson?Students will use appropriate
mathematical language in order to explain their thinking to determine the answer to the problem

TASK ANALYSIS: What are the prerequisite skills or background knowledge that students need in order to
meet the objective(s)? Students need to understand the broad concepts of Integrated Math 2. Students are
responsible for the following concepts:
- Quadrilaterals
- Parallelograms
- Special Parallelograms
- Trapezoids and midsegments
- Altitudes and medians
- Ratios and proportions
- Similar polygons
- Similar triangles
- Side splitter and parallels
- Pythagorean
- Special triangles
- Tangent ratios
CSTP 1.4: Using a variety of instructional strategies, resources and technologies to meet students diverse learning needs
CSTP 3.1: Demonstrating knowledge of subject matter, academic content standards and curriculum frameworks
CSTP 3.3: Organizing curriculum to facilitate student understanding of the subject matter
CSTP 3.6: Addressing the needs of English Learners and students with special needs to provide equitable access to the content
CSTP 4.2: Establishing and articulating goals for student learning
CSTP 4.4: Planning instruction that incorporates strategies to meet the learning needs of all students
- Sine and cosine ratios (SOH/CAH/TOA)
- Angle of elevation and Depression

ACADEMIC LANGUAGE/TARGET VOCABULARY
What specific academic language (content vocabulary/language of academic tasks) will be developed in this
lesson? Sine, cosine, tangent, soh/cah/toa; angle, side splitter, altitude, pythagorean theorem, right triangles

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT LAYOUT
How will the classroom environment support this lesson? Tutoring is usually a small group around a small
table in my classroom where the white board is always visible or I can use small individual boards for some
students.

ASSESSMENTS
What informal/formal assessments will you use to assess student performance? What specific written
assessment will students complete for analysis and discussion with your support provider?
While we are talking through problems, I will be able to check in with students to see their level of
understanding. I am able to review strategies, check for understanding, and correct errors easily.

LESSON OBSERVATION FOCUS (FOR MY SP)
What is the focus area your support provider will observe during this lesson?
More ideas to hold students accountable to standards and help motivate and support them.
