PIPING REVISION 2 SEP 1999

NOTES
(1) All systems should be flushed in accordance with the following minimum flow rates, higher rates are
preferred. NPS 4 - 400 gpm (25 dm3/sec), NPS 6 - 900 gpm (57 dm3/sec), NPS 8 - 1600 gpm (100
dm3/sec), NPS 10 - 2500 gpm (158 dm3/sec), NPS 12 - 3500 gpm (220 dm3/sec), NPS 14 and larger -
4500 gpm (284 dm3/sec).

(2) The upper temperature range for Trenton Corp. #1 Wax-Tape is limited to 100 F.

(3) Flanges are for mating to flanged equipment and to flanged valves. Where needed, IPS 24 flange adapters are
also permitted, however, note that the Ebba Iron Sales, Series 2100, IPS 24 Flange adapter has a maximum
non-shock pressure rating of 200 psig.

(4) Piping, fittings and accessories having either Factory Mutual (FM) or Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) approval
should be provided, however, use of materials or components not bearing such approval is permitted with review
and endorsement from Owners Representative.

(5) The need for additional corrosion protection for ductile iron piping systems, such as fusion bonded epoxy or
extruded polyethylene per MCP-502, shall be reviewed and approved by the Owner representative prior to
installation.

(6) Maximum depth of cover for listed pipe and fittings with typical (MUGP-500, Class C bedding / Type II backfill)
laying conditions: 16 ft. for NPS 4 to 12; 12 ft. for NPS 14 to 24. Other combinations of laying condition and
pipe pressure class (per ANSI/AWWA C150/A21.50) may be used to validate greater depth of bury by
documented Owner approved designs. See also note (11).

(7) Gasket lubricant should be compatible with the gasket material and should be supplied by the pipe or flange
manufacturer as appropriate.

(8) Coat valve body per MPCM-241.

(9) Alternative coating systems must be approved by the Owner representative.

(10) Working pressure rating of Butterly Valve is 175 psig maximum. See vendor catalog literature for rated
temperature limits. If a full specification rated valve is required, substitute an American Flow Control, Series
2500 NRS Ductile Iron Resilient Wedge Valve (available in IPS 16 & 24 only, not UL or FM approved) or
consult Owner representative.

(11) For service in extreme conditions (unstable soils or heavy surface loads), use ductile iron (DI), ANSI/AWWA
C151/A21.51 (Pressure Class by the Owner representative), with restrained push-on joints such as US Pipe and
Foundrys TR FLEX restrained joint pipe and fittings in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C110/A21.10 and
ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 (gaskets per ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11) . Standard cement mortar lining required
in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C104/A21.4. Use of other joining systems for specific applications requires
REO approval. See also note (6).

(12) Substitution of the American Flow Controls Series 2500 NRS Resilient Wedge Valve (UL/FM approved through
IPS 12) is permitted.
