The University of Moratuwa invites applications from suitable candidates for admission to the postgraduate courses
in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installations and Industrial Automations, leading to the Degree of
Master of Science or Postgraduate Diploma. The courses are scheduled on a part-time basis commencing from
October 2017 and will be offered in a modular form.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

1. Degree of Bachelor of Science of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa in Electrical Engineering; or
2. Any other engineering degree of at least four years duration in a relevant field of specialization as may be
approved by the Senate; or
3. Any recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute, obtained through an
academic route, with a minimum of one year of recognized appropriate experience obtained after the
membership, as may be approved by the Senate.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION

1. The Degree of Bachelor of the Science of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa specializing in
Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics / Computer Engineering; or
2. Any other engineering degree of at least four years duration, from a recognized University, in a relevant
field as may be approved by the Senate; or
3. A degree in Engineering, Technology or Science of at least three years duration from a recognized
university in a relevant field of specialization with a minimum of one year of recognized appropriate
experience obtained after the degree AND a Postgraduate certificate in Industrial Automation or in an
equivalent field, as may be approved by the Senate; or
4. Any recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute, obtained through an
academic route, with a minimum of one year of recognized appropriate experience obtained after the
membership, as may be approved by the Senate.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The courses would normally be conducted part-time basis during the weekend.
Electrical Engineering & Electrical Installations: Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday
Industrial Automation: Saturday and Sunday
Those who successfully complete the examinations, assignments, projects etc. will be eligible for Postgraduate
Diploma. A selected set of those who are eligible for Postgraduate Diploma may proceed to undertake an individual
project of one-year duration on part-time basis. Those candidates who successfully complete the research project
will be awarded the Degree of Master of Science.

COURSE FEES

Registration fees: Rs. 2,000 per year.

Examination fees: Rs. 500 per year (payable at registration).
Tuition fees: Rs. 200,000 for the first year and Rs. 100,000 for the second year.

Library Deposit: Rs. 2,500 per item, up to 6 items (Optional and refundable).

Automation

Certificate in Industrial Automation. The courses are scheduled on a part-time basis commencing from October
2017 and will be offered in a modular form.

1. A degree in Engineering specializing in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/ Telecommunications/Chemical /

Computer Engineering of at least three years duration, or
2. A degree in Science or Technology of at least three years duration in a relevant field of specialization, with a
minimum of six months of recognized appropriate experience, as may be judged by the Faculty of Engineering
and approved by the Senate, or
3. Any recognized category of membership of a recognized Professional Institute, obtained through an academic
route, with a minimum of six months of recognized appropriate experience, as may be judged by the Faculty of
Engineering and approved by the Senate.

Those who successfully complete the examinations, assignments, projects etc. will be eligible for Postgraduate
Certificate.

Examination fees: Rs. 500 per year (payable at registration).
Tuition fees: Rs. 90,000

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND CLOSING DATE

Application forms can be downloaded from the department web site or can be obtained from the Head, Department
of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Katubedda, Moratuwa 10400 by sending a self addressed stamped
envelope 100 225mm in size . The closing date for applications for all the courses will be 30th June 2017.
