IIM Summer Internship Program

Statement of Purpose

Hailing from a small town of Jamshedpur, I have always dreamt big and envisioned a professional role that will
help me exploit my potential to the fullest. Brought up in a city that is home to country's two biggest
corporates, I have since childhood had a keen interest in comprehending how businesses actually work, what
goes on in the confines of big firms, how firms grow, excel and sometimes perish.

Being the eldest child in my family, I have been brought up with strong basic values, with a keen focus on
excelling in whatever I take on. While maintaining a key focus on academics, I believe that these qualities have
also helped me develop a strong personality. During my years at school, I realized that I had a keen interest in
analysis and problem solving. Therefore, I decided to pursue engineering at IIT Kharagpur. During the course of
my five-year Masters programme in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, apart from honing my analytical
skills, I worked in various teams, leading many of them to victory in different competitions. Through these
years I developed an understanding of team dynamics and thoroughly enjoyed projects with a strong analytical
focus.

As a logical progression to my analytical interests I worked with two leading organizations first with Infosys
BPO Ltd, serving our client Deutsche Bank with capital market security portfolio development & subsequently
with Lehman Brothers with the Securitized Products team. In both these organizations I worked along with
cross-cultural teams, on demanding projects with tough deadlines. In course of time I proved my worth & was
appropriately rewarded with recognition and responsibility. In line with my quest for gaining holistic
knowledge of the functioning of businesses so as to be able to take on larger responsibilities, I decided to
pursue my post graduation in business management from IIM Ahmedabad. In the two ensuing years I expect
to develop my interest across diverse sectors and fulfill my quest of understanding the myriad ways of the
corporate world.

Alvarez & Marsal works in a very challenging and dynamic line of business and one which is very close to my
heart and would thereby motivate me to work very hard. Given the current global slowdown & softening of
the corporate sector, this line of business becomes even more exciting & throws open many more
opportunities. Moreover, having excelled in all my academic and professional endeavours I would ideally want
to work in an environment as the one at Alvarez & Marsal, which strongly believes in meritocracy. With an
extremely talented team and a proven track record, Alvarez & Marsal provides an opportunity to work with
experienced turnaround & restructuring professionals. This is an opportunity which will enable me to learn,
grow and eventually apply my knowledge leading to work satisfaction. In turn this will enable me to generate
high quality work and add value to the firm as well.

With my consistent academic & professional track record and an unending quest for learning, I believe I have a
strong case to be recruited for a summer internship position with Alvarez & Marsal. Looking forward to
working with the team at A & M.
