NetNumen M3 (ZXC10
BSSB) Networking Model
NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) is a network management platform
based on ZTE universal network management platform to manage
ZXC10 radio access equipments.
NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) provides 3 levels of network
management: Network Management Center (NMC), Local Net-
work Management Center (LNMC) and Operation & Maintenance
Module (OMM) from high to low level. NMC and LNMC are not
directly connected to NEs.
NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) supports 2layer networking
model and 3layer networking model.

2-Layer Networking Model

FIGURE 1 2LAYER NETWORKING MODEL

In this model, NMC directly manages OMMs and provides north-

bound interfaces for NMS.
This networking model is recommended because it is applicable to
most of scenarios.

3-Layer Networking Model

working model.

Chapter 1 Overview

FIGURE 2 3LAYER NETWORKING MODEL

In this model, NMC manages OMMs through LNMCs and provides

external northbound interfaces.
This networking model is applicable to the scenario where there
are lots of NEs.

NetNumen M3 (ZXC10
BSSB) Network Architecture
This section takes the 2layer networking model as an example to
describe NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) network architecture, as
shown in Figure 3.

FIGURE 3 NETNUMEN M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) 2LAYER NETWORK

ARCHITECTURE

In the 2layer network architecture, ZXC10 CDMA OMC equip-

ments including ZXC10 BSSB and NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB)
are grouped into a local area network and isolated from external
equipments by routers because the equipments from other manu-
facturers cannot be directly connected into the local area network.

NBI Position
NetNumenM3 (ZXC10 BSSB) provides four types of northbound
interfaces: Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA),
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), File Transfer Pro-
tocol (FTP) and Telnet interfaces to connect to the upper level or
the third party Network Management System (NMS).
Generally NMC / LNMC provides standard northbound interfaces.
If there are a few NEs in a system, northbound interfaces can be
provided by OMM (not recommended).
Figure 4 illustrates the northbound interface position in a 2layer
networking model where NMC directly manages OMMs and pro-
vides northbound interfaces to connect to NMS.

Chapter 1 Overview

FIGURE 4 NBI POSITION

Because ZTE NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) equipments consti-

tute a local area network where equipments from other manufac-
turers are not allowed to access, routers are required to isloate
NetNumen M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) equipments from others.

Software and Hardware

Requirements
ZTE NMC hardware configuration includes:
Two server machines
Disk array
Client machine for operation and report console
Router and hub
NMC software includes:
ZTE-developed software (system software and basic ser-
vice software)
Outsourced software (Operating system, database and an-
tivirus software)

Version Preparation

Table of Contents
NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) Version Preparation ................ 7
Equipment Version Preparation ............................................. 7

NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10
BSSB) Version Preparation
Northbound SNMP interface is developed based on NetNumenTM
M3 (ZXC10 BSSB). NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) deployment is
the prerequisite for building northbound SNMP interface.
There are three situations for providing SNMP interface functions:
For the area without NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) system,
construct the NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) system first and
then provide the SNMP interface functions through the NMC.
The software version should be upgraded to NetNumenTM M31
(ZXC10 BSSB) (V 3.08.20.04).

Equipment Version
Preparation
The manageable equipments in NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB)
are BSC and BTS.
NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) needs appropriate foreground
equipment version to provide the upward SNMP service.
BSSB should be upgraded to 3G (V 8.0.1.9) or later.

SNMP function and some modules of NMC, LNMC and OMM (for
example, configuration management and fault management) are
deployed on the existing NMC server.
Figure 5illustrates the partition of NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB)
and NMS engineering interface. Each NMC provides an Ethernet
port on router to connect with NMS of other vendors. These ven-
dors also supply the software and hardware for networking be-
tween Ethernet and NMS.

Physical Access Mode

According to site conditions, NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) is able
to provide 10M/100M, E1, DDN and X.25 ports. Router and corre-
sponding modules can be added or provided by NMS if necessary.

While connecting with integrated network management sys-

tem via Ethernet port use CISCO 2621XM /2651XM (two
10/100M are available) or CISCO 3725/CISCO3745 (two
10/100M are available) at any side. Use NM-4E module to
provide 4 additional 10M Ethernet ports. Specifically, on
CISCO 3725/CISCO3745, use NM-2FE2W to provide 2 addition
10/100M Ethernet ports.
While connecting with integrated network management sys-
tem via E1 interface, use WIC-2T module and G703/E1-U or
G703/FE1 to provide E1 interface.

According to network management specifications:
Notify NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB), the IP address of the
computer where NMS resides on and the SNMP trap message
listening port. NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) uses north-
bound interface configuration tool to configure NMS message.
NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB) notifies NMS, the computer
that Agent resides on and listening port, community name, and
mib file. NMS sends the orders and receives the trap events of
NetNumenTM M3 (ZXC10 BSSB).
