Dear Grace,

My name is Shkendie Zeciri, and I am writing in response to the job posting that I saw in the
Teaching House TEFL jobs database for an ESOL/EFL/ESL teacher with EF English First in
Jakarta, Tangerang, or Bogor, Indonesia. Always striving to learn, grow, and adapt, I believe life
is an adventure in and of itself. The more we take opportunities to experience new cultures,
languages, and environments, the more we will be better apt to make true meaningful
connections with those who may differ from us, and in turn hope to help make this world a little
brighter.

Having received my CELTA certification in 2012, I am currently pursuing my bachelors degree

in Educational Studies through Arizona State University, online. In the beginning of 2017, I was
living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I was utilizing my CELTA degree teaching English to
both children and adults. Upon my arrival back to the States, I decided to further pursue my
education in order to obtain my BA and open up more possibilities in the realm of teaching
English as a foreign language. I believe we are never too old to learn new things, and I am
constantly reminding myself of this as I not only return to continue my education at 35 years of
age, but also in pursuit of other dreams that I have- such as learning to surf, and living and
working abroad, specifically on an island. Indonesia, being an island-nation, has always been on
my radar of places to live and work.

I also believe that it is important to learn from all areas of life, and apply whatever lessons
learned to other areas as well. For example, when I was the Creative Arts Director for a church
here in Chicago for four years, there were times I had to work alone, but most importantly I had
to work as part of a team, and with a team of people whose creative juices were always flowing.
Learning to work cohesively can take time, but with the willingness to work together, incredibly
wonderful outcomes can arise. This is true in working together with co-workers as well as the
students. In teaching English as a foreign language, the teacher must have knowledge of the
language, but I believe it is also important to understand where the student is coming from and
how they may feel about learning a new language as well as any fears or concerns they may
have. Together, the students, teachers, and staff create a team of support and accountability
along the journey of learning a new language.

Although living and working in another country can take some time to adapt to, I have found that
the rewards of meeting people, gaining knowledge and experiences, and being immersed in new
language and culture, far outweigh any of the initial discomforts. When we choose to view life
as an adventure, it helps to lessen the fears of the unknown, and awaken a sense of curiosity and
awe. We begin to learn to use fear to our benefit in order to continue taking risks, and in turn
learning new and wonderful things that we might never otherwise have known. In the case of the
students at EF English First, it is a new language that will be a door to new and exciting
possibilities. I look forward to hearing from you, and in beginning my adventure with EF
English First in the worlds largest tropical paradise that is, Indonesia. Please contact me by
phone at +18722144160, or via email at shkendie@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and
consideration.

Sincerely,

Shkendie Zeciri
