what is MSC?

Mobile Switching Center (MSC)


Combines of MSC-S & M-MGw
Responsible for:
Routing traffic and
Signaling information in the network

Some functions:
Call control management (Registration,..)
Mobility management (Location update,
handover, call routing,)

What is GMSC?

Gateway MSC (GMSC)


Interface with fixed network (PSTN/ISDN)
Retrieve information form HLR for location of
sub.
Route all calls to appropriate MSC/VLR
Also perform charging for mobile terminate call

Home Location Register (HLR)


Centralized database of subscriber
