The Heavy Duty scanner is a diagnostic scan tool. The design of the GDS was developed with the technician in
mind. With its large size, true-color touch screen, and easy to use UI which technicians are now able to operate
more intuitively and easily. Equipped with a built-in 400MHZ processor, much more superior compared with the
commonly used ARM9 chip, ensuring the customer accurate and real-time diagnostic information.
The GDS comprehensively supports all protocols and all modes via OBD II. The built-in CANBUS chip supports all
CANBUS agreements. The intuitive design and power of the GDS allows for accurate diagnosis and future software
additions. The scanner is updated via Internet with regular updates throughout the year.
Using Bluetooth technology, a technician can wirelessly diagnose avoiding issues caused by tethered devices.
With its fast speed, accurate readings and convenient UI, the GDS is a first choice when searching for the perfect
Heavy Duty scan tool for diagnostics.

Chapter two Using the Scan Tool
A. Calibrating the Screen
1 During the boot process, tap anywhere to access the screen calibration
program
2 Click on the center of the cross on the main screen cursor after starting the
screen calibration program. The cross cursor will turn in the middle of the
screen, move to the upper left, lower left, lower right, and upper right corner of
the five points. Click on the cross cursor each time it moves. Each click will
move the cross cursor to the next position. Accurate clicking ensures accurate
calibration. Click anywhere to store the current calibration value after five
directions are followed. Click to enter the boot process.
The screen does not need to be calibrated each time the scan tool is used. Calibrate
only if the touch screen appears to be slow or inaccurate. (Touch screen calibration
also can be set via the Setting function in the main menu as it is powered on.)

1.Menu Selection
To connect the scan tool to a vehicle, press the power switch and enter
the main menu , as follows
15
GDS BEACON
Example: for HINO, choose Engine, then select the HINO logo. If the
vehicle maker is not found in the first screen, click PgUpor PgDnand
find it as follows:
16
GDS BEACON
If multiple software versions are displayed, choose the latest release. Click on
OK, then enter theHINOmenu, and choose from the following menu:
Take diagnose Engine as an example: Turn the ignition key to ON, then
select the Engine menu. The diagnostic box will communicate with the
vehicle ECU. The screen will display the communication status as shown below.
17
GDS BEACON
If communication with the vehicle ECU fails, the screen will show test
failed as below.
The ignition key is not turned to the ON position. Turn the key ON or
start the engine.
Poor connection between the scan tool and the vehicle diagnostic socket.
Recheck the connection.
The incorrect menu was selected.
The units software has not been updated. Please keep the software current.

If there are fault codes stored in the ECU, the screen will display all fault codes,
as follows.
Note: The first fault codes detected are not necessarily the most important for clearing
faults. When driving the vehicle or running one of the systems, the ECU diagnoses the
entire system continuously. Faults could be caused by driving conditions. These may be
unrelated to actual vehicle faults.
Record the fault codes first detected. Delete them; then, read the codes again. Codes
that cannot be deleted indicate problems to be fixed. If all fault codes can be erased
but the problems persist, start the vehicle and read the fault codes after driving. A
fault code that continues to be displayed indicates what needs to be repaired.
21
GDS
Go back and select freeze frame to read the freeze frame data. For example,
when reading the freeze frame data of fault code P0188choose fault code
of P0188 then selectfreeze frameThe freeze frame data will display, as
shown below.
Note: not all ECUs have the freeze frame function. Freeze frame data means that
when recording a fault code, the ECU will also save all data relating to this fault code,
including input and output data.
22
GDS
Select erase fault codes to erase the ECU memory. This function will erase
all current and historical fault codes. Make sure you record the fault codes
before erasing. See below.

Go to the testing function menu, select read data stream for the dynamic and
static data stream on the system. Note: select and display the individual data
streams as required. Some data streams require the engine to be running and
some do not. See below.
24
GDS
Note: using the live data stream function requires a good understanding on the
sensor data, control signal and control method of every system of the vehicle.

Take testing EGR solenoid valve as an example. Press the EGR solenoid
valve menu to test the EGR solenoid valve. Observe whether the EGR
solenoid valve moves as directed. See below.

Function Test
Go to the test function menu screen to enter the "function test" menu, as shown
below.
Take "VNT Check" , for example. Select the "VNT Check" menu to display the
necessary conditions or operational tips for functional testing. Start test after
confirming, as below.
27
GDS
In the test function menu screen, select "injector data" function to display the
read, write, Nozzle Data menu, as shown below.
After selecting "read QR" menu read the engine nozzle data, as shown below.
28
GDS
To program a new injector, go to the "injector data" function, select the "write
QR" menu. You can then program the sixth cylinder injector, as shown below.
Before you can program an injector, the system needs to check whether the
code is correct or not. After confirmation, click OKas shown below.
29
GDS
Tip: Typically, only when replacing the injector do you need the function
Read and write Injector code (QR code). Before reprogramming, first ensure
that the correct injector is selected.
