Why do you think this article is called the many faces of masks?
Phonetic pronunciation
When a word is very difficult to say or when a word is not in English, the author
shows you how to say it with a phonetic pronunciation in parenthesis
Point to Tutankhamen and have students use the phonetic spelling in
the parenthesis to pronounce the word

Have students design and make their own mask
This assessment will take place during writing instead of during reading groups
Students should draw on their masks in pencil and design their mask before
using markers and stickers to decorate it
Students will also write a few sentences explaining their masks
what they put on it and why
what the purpose of their mask is
