School-based assessment is inherently more valid and reliable than external assessment which is

the standardized assessment, because it aims to assess authentic oral language use in low-stress
conditions with different types of assessment tasks. The SBA component is not and cannot be treated as an
external exam in which texts and tasks are totally standardised and all contextual variables controlled
because to attempt to do so would be to negate the very rationale for SBA.

School-based assessment fosters contextualised judgements about student achievement and

allows diagnostic feedback to be provided to students, including information on how they can improve and
do better. Besides, it also encourages students to plan their learning, develop learning strategies, problem
solving skills, and self- evaluate their own performances which is a necessity now as the aim of our country
is to produce holistic citizens which is equipped with all rounded skills and are capable to competent
globally.
