Purpose

Instant messaging (ICQ) was created in 1996 when the inventors realized that millions of
people were connecting to the Internet to use the World Wide Web, but these users were
not interconnected. Two years later they were later bought out by AOL (University of Texas,
Austin)
In 2010 Jan Koum and Brian Acton created WhatsApp as an alternative to SMS
(WhatsApp)
Now, WhatsApps mission is to let people communicate anywhere in the world without
barriers (WhatApp)
