Glaurung the Golden

Glaurung the Golden was the first and greatest of the Uruloki or fire drakes. The Father of Dragons, they called him. He fought for Morgoth in many battles and led legions of lesser fire drakes out of the pits of Angband. In 496 of the first age, he destroyed the armies of Nargothrond at Tumhalad and took possession of the great hall, where he lay upon his hoard of treasure.

Wargear Glaurung is a Uruloki, a fire drake and can breath fire, this along with his razor sharp teeth and claws are ample weapons. He has scales so hard and strong that only the mightiest Elven blade could pierce them.

Special Rules

Creature of Magic. Glaurung is a mystical creature, created by magic and so He gets a free Will every turn. Note this cannot be carried over to the next turn.

Movement. Glaurung doesn’t have wings so he moves 8” and cannot use the rein of fire attack

Monstrous Mount.

Terror. Dragons are huge beasts and evoke fear into all their enemies, as described in the courage section of the main

Self Preservation. Dragons are creatures of cunning and will rarely fight on to their death. When they are down to half

their wounds they must make a courage test at the beginning of every turn, if they fail they will be removed from the board

as a casualty. This is to show them leaving to fight another day.

Fire blast. This takes place in the shooting phase. The dragon lets out a flaming ball at its enemies. This works in the

same way that a siege weapon does, except it hits its target with a Strength 6 fireball and has a 2”/4cm area of effect.

After rolling to hit roll on the Fire Blast scatter chart. If the target is a wooden structure or an Ent, it’s defence will be lowered to 6, and will take a wound or a batter point each turn until the fire is put out. Putting out fires is explained below.

Putting out fires. A model can put out a burning model or building by, moving in to contact with it. The model then rolls a D6 as if it was shooting, if it “hits” they then roll to wound against a Defence of 2. If all rolls are successful the fire is put out.

FIRE BLAST SCATTER CHART

1- Wide of the Mark. The opponent may nominate one of your battlefield or Siege targets, within 3”/8cm of the initial target. If no alternative target within 3”/8cm, or the player does not want to do this, the shot misses completely. 2-5 - Slight deviation. You opponent may nominate one of his own Battlefield Targets within 3”/8cm of the initial target as the new target. If there are no suitable targets within 3”/8cm then the shot misses completely. 6- Dead on! The shot lands dead on target.

Models to use

Models to use

There's quite a wide range of Dragon models to use out there. Companies such as Reaper mintures and even GW (with some heavy converting). But i chose to use Mithril mintures Dragon models. Not only do they have round bases to fit the model and fit in with our game, but they have a fairly wide range of models, and they are quite easily convertable if you wnated a different pose. Here are some og my own Mithril Dragons and some from their site.
