The first one, Srnade is an Andantino
Sonata III

Sonata, Allegro Moderato

Sonata III
Chanson, Andante
M.M. Ponce wrote this piece in Paris in 1927. Unfortunately, only four
Rondo, Allegro non troppo pages of the manuscript survived constituting just a first draft of this work.
Sonata III is divided in three movements: the first one is in sonata form and
it is characterized by richly chromatics harmonies; the Chanson employs a
popular Basque melody wich is beautified by a counterpoint texture; the last
movement is a Rondo form. The use of rapids scales, rasgueados and
tremolo makes the virtuoso character of the piece, evocating also a Spanish
atmosphere.

The first and the second movement are written in D minor key, while the
third movement is in D major. It is interesting to notice that the sounds B flat
and B natural are frequently juxtaposed in these the three pieces, creating
occurrence of light and shadow that characterized the whole Sonata.

The Sonata III constitutes one of the most important pieces in the guitar
repertoire.
