Common questions for those having little or no experience with vibration analysis are Should I attend the Entry or Analysis
I seminar? and Am I ready for Analysis I?
Analysis I assumes and builds on what is taught in Entry Class and assumes the student has a basic understanding of
vibration measurement and analysis.
The following questions are taken from the Entry textbook and are designed to help you make the decision on which class
you should rst take.
It is recommended that you start with the Entry seminar if you cannot fully and condently answer 24 (80%) of the
following 30 questions:
8. When should you use one vibration amplitude unit versus the others?
12. What is a low frequency accelerometer and when must you use it?
13. What is Sensor Power and when must you enable it in your analyzer?
14. What is Auto Range and when should you use it?
15. What advantages does a Shear Mode Accelerometer have over a Compression Mode Accelerometer?
16. What are the common Average Types" used in data acquisition?
19. How do Sideband Frequencies help the analyst detect certain problems?
24. Are most rolling element fault frequencies Synchronous, Nonsynchronous or Subsynchronous?
26. Why does high amplitude at 2X Line frequency indicate an eccentric rotor in an AC induction motor?
27. What condition is indicated by the presence of many running speed harmonics in a vibration velocity
spectrum?
28. What is typically the problem when vibration phase at 1X, 2X and/or 3X RPM is nearly 180 degrees out of
phase across a coupling?
29. What is the dierence between Route Mode and Analysis Mode in a vibration analyzer?
30. What is Dynamic Range and how does it aect the display of a vibration spectrum?
