Book Review: Learning Together with Young Children

This book has been a guiding light for me, because it offers a different framework in

approaching the standard curriculum. Learning together with young children is every parents and

teachers path to understanding and creating an exciting environment for students/children.

The first chapter was a bit overwhelming, but it quickly became interesting because some

of the unique approach were very engaging. This book has help me examine and reflect on my

current knowledge of the standard mandated curriculum and how reflective teaching can improve

our skills in the classroom and as an educator. It emphasizes on child-centered teaching inspiring

educators to create a welcoming environment for students and honoring every child cultural

background.

Deb Curtis said, Children need teachers who are passionate, curious, joyful, and

committed to being fully mindful. This quotation shows the importance of commitment and

open mindedness when working with children because they can feel our passion and authencity.

Its important that we constantly reflect on our work and that our work fits every child needs to

be successful. As a parent, I also have an important task to keep my daughter engage in school as

well helping her developed skills that will help her resolve challenges. So, I ask myself What do

we believe the purpose of education to be? I believe that education is the foundation to

preparing young people in participating in society, what they learn in the classroom will help

shape their beliefs, values and how they cope with challenges. Education begins early on and

with parents and teachers collaboration it will bring much strengths and confidence in every

child.
Book Review 2

Reflective teaching is an effective approach that is beneficial for both new and

experience teachers because educators must be constantly aware of what is working for the

classroom and what is beneficial for students individually. I love that the book gives a broad

perspective in creating a fun, engaging and expressive environment while still implementing the

standard curricula.

Learning together with children is journey for educators as well as a journey for every

child, and when creating an environment for classroom it must value diversity, because every

child is unique, creativity, inspiring students to be creative and expressive, enhancing their

emotional connections. These helps children make sense of what they are learning so they can

discover who they are.

This book is a great tool not just for educators but for parents as well because, both

parents and teachers serves as a guide and inspiration for children to succeed not just in the

classroom but in life. To make something matter, it should inspire and spark excitement in every

childs learning. As a parent, I hope to continue to grow with my daughter, because every day is

an opportunity for all of us to be child and be a teacher.

A childs play is not simply a reproduction of what he has experienced, but a creative

reworking of the impressions he has acquired- Vygotsky

This is true because learning is not simply experiencing what is thought but enjoying the

process of creativity as he/she discover that learning is an endless journey to creativity.
