POWER OUTAGE: There will be a Goddard Television planned power outage


this weekend, beginning Friday, June 18 at 5 p.m. and ending Monday,
June 21 at 6 a.m. Media in the Washington, D.C., area who receive their
NASA Television video feed via landline (including the Bell Atlantic
Audiovisual Operations Center) will not receive NASA Television. NASA
Television will still be available directly via the satellite: GE-2,
transponder 9C at 85 degrees West longitude, with vertical polarization.
Frequency is on 3880.0 megahertz, with audio on
6.8 megahertz

Item 1A QuikScat animation


The Quick Scatterometer (QuikScat), NASA's next El Nino watcher,
will be used to better understand global weather anomalies. The SeaWinds
instrument aboard QuikScat will provide daily, detailed measurements of
winds as they swirl above the world's oceans. QuikScat is scheduled to
launch no earlier than 10:15 p.m. EDT, June 19, 1999.

Computer-generated, simulated QuikScat data on a spinning globe
shows the wind patterns over the world's oceans.

UPCOMING LIVE EVENT: QUIKSCAT LAUNCH, JUNE 19


The QuikScat satellite, NASA's next El Nino watcher, will launch at
10:15 p.m. EDT, June 19 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA. The
satellite was scheduled for liftoff June 18 but the launch was delayed
24 hours so engineers could work on a possible instrumentation problem
with the Titan II launch vehicle. Launch coverage on NASA Television
will begin at 8:30 p.m. EDT, June 19.
