This document describes how to install the dual band adapter as a retrofit option in the
Horizon II macro BTS cabinet. If the dual band adapter has been supplied as part of a
new Horizon II macro order, refer to the dual band adapter installation instructions
contained in the installation manual 68P02902W97, issue B or later.
Adapter description
The dual band adapter (see Figure 1) is essentially a wiring harness and SURF2
support frame that plugs into the SURF2 bay in the top panel. The two SURF2s
then plug directly into the adapter frame.
The wiring harness in the base of the adapter routes the signals from the front
SURF2 to the three CTU2 slots on the right side of the cabinet and the signals
from the rear SURF2 to the three CTU2 slots on the left side of the cabinet.
Thus, only a maximum of three CTU2s can be used for either 900 MHz or
1800 MHz operation.

Installation prerequisites
The prerequisites for installing and using the dual band adapter in the Horizon II macro
are as follows:
A second SURF2 that operates in the alternative frequency band to the one(s)
currently installed.
BSS software load 1670.24.t2 and OMC-R software load 1670.f. Future
availability is planned for 1760.0b.

Installation procedure
WARNING Observe all relevant safety precautions, as described in
the service manual when carrying out this procedure.
Proceed as follows to install the dual band adapter in the Horizon II macro:
1. Remove the existing SURF2 from the BTS, using the removal procedure
described in Replacing a SURF2 module in the service manual.
NOTE If two SURF2s are installed, remove both of them and
pack away the second SURF2.
2. Carefully lower the dual band adapter into the top panel and ensure that it
is correctly seated in the top panel.
3. Secure the frame in position by tightening the two M4 mounting screws on
either end of the adapter frame to the correct torque using the T20 Torx
driver.
4. Refit the original SURF2 and fit the new alternative frequency SURF2 into
the slots in the adapter frame, using the normal SURF2 replacement
procedure described in Replacing a SURF2 module.
5. Carry out any necessary BTS reconfiguration, bearing in mind that a
maximum of only three CTU2s are now available for each frequency band.
The procedure for installing the dual band adapter is now complete.
