1.0 Introduction

The purpose of the pull out test is to confirm the load values provided by the manufacturer by
carrying out a pull test on site.

2.0 Technical Information*

Anchor type
drill diameter d0 [mm]
drill depth h1 [mm]
eff. anchorage depth hef [mm]
clearance hole in fixture hf [mm]
thickness of fixture tfix [mm]
thickness of concrete member hmin [mm]
required torque Tinst [Nm]
concrete strength fc [mm]

*To be filled in the Pull out test report based on the anchor being tested. The values can also be
checked from the Technical handbook pages attached.

2.1 Test equipment

fischer FZE is using a Hydrajaws Medium Duty

Fixing Tester. The tensile load of up to 25kN is
applied to the fixing mechanically and hydraulics are
used to register the load through an accurate analog
gauge.

Two calibrated analog gauges are available:

Test range: 0 10 KN and 0 25 KN

2.2 Test equipment for heavy duty applications

fischer FZE provides also test equipment for higher load capacities up to 598 kN.
0 323 kN and 0 598 kN. The tensile load is also applied to the fixing mechanically by using
different adapters in combination with a hollow cylinder. The pressure is applied through a hydraulic
pump. The tension loads is direct indicated on the gauge in kN or tons. (All gauges are calibrated)
Calibration certificate will be provided before conducting the test.

3.0 Test procedure

1 - Drilling the hole straight into the concrete member until reaching the drilling depth. (It is also
possible to drill through the fixture)
2 - Cleaning the hole by blowing out (in case of chemical anchors cleaning procedure of used
chemical fixing has to be observed)
3 - Drive the bolt through the fixture (or a pull out test - button adapter e.g. for frame fixings) into
the drilling hole until you reach the anchorage depth. In some cases it is also possible to
connect the jack with the bolt direct.
adapter direct to the anchor bolt. Both versions are possible and have no influence to the result.
4 - Apply the requested tightening torque
5 - Installation of the pull out equipment

3.1 Pull out test

The pull out tests should be carried out in accordance to the manufactures guideline or ETA
approval guideline. Test equipment should be certificated and maintained.

The load shall be applied until the required proof load is reached. The required proof load shall be
the design load, but not more than 1.5 times the design load.
If design loads are not available the test should be carried out with recommended loads and an
increasing factor not more than 1.8.

The Pull out test is passed, if the design load or the recommended load is reached, without any
obvious damages. Following failure modes are possible: cracks in the base material, steel
failure, concrete cone failure or pull out failure.

A minimum of 5 pull out tests should be carried out to make a conclusive statement.

If an anchor shows a failure behaviour, additional tests - minimum of 3 additional tests - should be
carried out to verify the result. (e.g. damage of the base material in advance.)
If the same behaviour is still observed the fixture is not suitable. (Wrong base material, overloaded,
no suitable fixing;.)
If the behaviour is not any more observed the test is passed.

3.2 Test Results

Following test Results are possible:

- Confirmation of a design or recommended load given by the manufacturer.

- Evaluation of a design load. (for approved fixing with a ETA or national approval, with partial
safety factors)
- Evaluation of the recommended Load, by using the ultimate loads or characteristic loads (5% -
fractile) with a global safety factor, specified by the manufacture.
