About the Flag
The Turkish flag was officially adopted on

June 5, 1936, but has been in use since 1844.

The flag first started get created when Sultan

Selim III was in rule, when the green flags

were being used by the navy. Those flags were

then changed to the flag that Turkey has now, the crescent with a 5 pointed star.

Red has been used in Turkish flags for more than 700 years. The star and crescent

represent concentration, victory, sovereignty, and divinity.


What Happened?
On December 19, 2016, a Russian Ambassador named Andrey G. Karlov, was shot
by a 22 year old police officer at an art exhibit in Ankara. The gunman kept
shouting things like God is great and Dont forget Aleppo, dont forget Syria
and may other things like that. While the assassination, the police officer
wounded 3 other people that were near the Ambassador. The shooter got killed
by other police officers moments after he had terrorized Turkey. Many people
are believing that since the man was shouting to protect Syria, he was sent by
Syria to kill the Ambassador.

Why is This Important?
This is important to know because this could happen to our president, or
governors here in The United States. We should be aware of what could happen
to the president and governors, because if they get killed, it would be very bad
for the United States, and we could start another war.
