How did you feel when speaking English for the first time with your classmate?

English Class is my first class in university, because my physics class was cancelled. At first, I think its
very cool that my lecturer, Ms. Bening prohibited us to using bahasa in our class, because it will be
improved our Conversation skill. I feel a little bit nervous, because its quite long time, since I used
English for conversation. I think its long time ago, when I was on Junior High School maybe.
Sometimes I forget some words that I want to say to other people, because I was nervous. After
that, I know that my friend in my group who came to spoke out got some points, so I want to try to
get some points too, so I give comments. I only get one point, and I envy with my friend because she
got 3 points. So I make a comment again, but I was very nervous because I didnt prepare my words.
And I spoke with mumbling, and I think I made some disorder sentences.

What problems did you face in speaking?

On our conversation there only a little bit problem. Some of my friend didnt know the meaning of
some words. On my first comment, I already thought about it, so I didnt have any problem with it.
But on my second comment, I lost my words. After that I speak and mumbling because I dont know
what should I say after this. Sometime I also feel afraid, if I have some missed pronunciation and I
start mumbling again.

Did you make mistakes in grammar or pronunciation? How do the affect your communication?

I think I didnt do big mistake in my pronunciation. I know, its doesnt sound like British English,
American English, Australian English, and Singapore English. However, my friends know how to
answer my question, so I think its not bad. Sometimes they didnt know the meaning of words that I
used in my conversation. I dont know, its because I spoke to fast or because they didnt know the
right pronunciation. I already listening the right pronunciation on my English dictionary. Though I
think its not perfect like native speaker. I used simple grammar when I talked to my friend, only
present tense and some past tense. But when I speak without some text that I already wrote, I think
I make some mistakes on my words. But its ok, because my friend knew my words, a lot of people
dont care with grammar right?

How do you feel now?

I excited, because I think ms. Bening is very cool. She taught us to learn English conversation with
friendly situation. I think the best part on this class, is we cant use bahasa or we will get the penalty.
The penalty is we should pay Rp. 100,- on each word. Its maybe difficult for some people, because
our mom language is bahasa. But it will force us to learn English. It is okay, if we are still makes some
mistakes because ms. Bening told that we are same, we just need to practice and learn it. I think I
should be more confident, and have more bravery when I speak on English. I also think that our
English Class system will help us to learn English, not only on speaking but also on grammar, because
we should know the grammar before we speak.
