Family Life

Family- the foundation of society which is primarily responsible for shaping the lives of its members: a mall
unit where socialization begins to provide guidance in improving ones personality in order to become more
productive and useful citizens of the country.

Attraction- an admiration for someone that may include the desire to get to know the person better. It takes
place in the form of infatuation or crush.

Infatuation or crush- a atate of being completely carried away by unreasoning passion or love. Infatuation is
an admiration for someone without recognizing the persons flaws. Crushes usually last for only a short time,
a few weeks or maybe a few months.

Courtship-a period in a couples relationship which precedes their engagement and marriage or it is an
establishment of an agreed relationship of a more enduring kind.

Different Traditional Practices of Coutship in the Philippines

Ilocos and Tagalog Regions- serenading is know as tapat, to be in front of a womans house likely the same
as harana and also the balagtasan of the Tagalogs.

Luzon-rooster courtship is their form of courtship. A male chicken is left outside the house of the courted lady
to crow every morning for the admired ladys family.

Bulacan- their courtship is known as naninilong which means serenading from under the house. At midnight
the suitor goes beneath the nipa hut and then pricks the admired woman using a pointed object to wake her
up and then they converse in whispers.

Batangas- 1. men do household chores

2. Men are obliged to pay respect to the womans parents by saying Mano po when he visits her home

Pangasinan- 1. They mae use of taga-amo which means tamer, a form of love potion or charm which can be rubbed
on the skin of the admired. It can alos be in the form of a drinkable potion.
2. The suitor may also use palabas which means show or drama wherein a woman succumbs to revealing
her love to her suitor who pretends to commits suicide if the lady does not confess her true feelings.

Kalinga- their courtship is called began where a man and woman are separated into houses. The man visits the womans
house to sing romantic songs and the woman replies to the songs through singing.

Palawan- they perform courtship throught he use of love riddles called pasaguli. It assesses the sentiments of the
parents of both the suitor and the woman. After the pabalic/pabalik is done, they settle the price in a form of dowry
that will be received by the woman.

Cebu-1.They resort to serenading, called balak.

2. They write love letters that are sent through a trusted friend or relative of the woman.
3. They give gifts to the woman and her relatives.
4. They use love potions.
Leyte- Men perform pangagad or paninilbihan. The suitor accomplish household and farm chores. It is also referred to
as subok- a trial or test period for the serving suitor

Mindanao- 1.Palabas, sarakahan tupul, or magpasumbahi is practiced. A suitor would threaten to stab his heart in front
of the courted womans father. If the father refuses to give his daughters hand to her suitor. The suitor is smitten by a
knife. 2. Men send a knife or spear to the house of the courted woman. Accepting the weapon is equivalent to
accepting the mans romantic intentions.

Basketball

Basketball is a team sport wherein the objective is to shoot the ball through a basket horizontally positioned
to score points following a set of rules.

History

-Basketball was invented by James Naismith in Dec. 1891.

-The first ball that was used was a soccer ball.
-The original color of the basketball ball was brown. In 1950s, it was changed to orange.
-The first official game was played in Jan.20,1892.
-There were nine players in each team before. In 1897-1898, it was reduced to five.
-The game is influenced by a childrens game Duck on a Rock

Facilities and Equipment

-Court The NBA court is 94 ft. Long and 50 ft. Wide

The international court is 91.9 ft. Long and 49.2 ft. Wide

-Ball Mens Ball is 29.5 inches in circumference and weighs 22 oz.

Womens ball is 28.5 inches in diameter and weighs 20 oz.

-Hoop is 18 inches in diameter and 10 feet high mounted to a backboard

-Shooting- the most practiced skill in basketball. The three types of shooting are 1.jump shot, 2. Lay-up and 3. Slam
