NOTIFICATION FOR Ph.D. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION 2017-2018

Applications are invited from Indian Nationals for Ph.D Entrance Exam 2017-
18 of the University of Mysore on available seats in various disciplines. List of
subjects is available on website of University of Mysore. It should be noted that
successful completion of entrance exam just implies only the eligibility of a
candidate for admission to Ph.D degree program of the University, but shall not
guarantee an admission to Ph.D. Degree program. Details are available in the Ph.D
Regulations-2016. In view of the above and pending approval of the Government the
Notification is issued with regard to regulations governing the award of Ph.D degree.

Eligible applicants can apply through online. The candidates should check
eligibility exemptions before applying only through the website
http://uni-mysore.ac.in The application form will be available in the website from
20/08/2017 to 09/09/2017. The candidates should fill up the online application form
and upload online only. The duly filled in application form along with scanned copy
of bank challan must be submitted online on or before 5PM on 13/09/2017 and one
hard copy should be submitted to The Co-ordinator, Ph.D Entrance and Course work
Cell, Directorate of Research, University of Mysore, Mysore-570005.
The Entrance Test is scheduled to be held on 29th October 2017 at University
of Mysore and Bangalore Centre only. For further details (including the syllabus for
the entrance test) the candidates are advised to visit http://uni-mysore.ac.in.
A. Conditions of Eligibility:

1. Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for
SC/ST/Cat-1/A candidate who completed Masters Degree prior to 19th Sep
1991) or equivalent grade under grading system, in their Masters Degree or
equivalent examination from the recognized Universities/Institutions.
2. The candidates have to satisfy other eligibility conditions stipulated in the
regulations.

B. Exemptions:

The following candidates are exempted from the entrance exam and they can
apply for Provisional Registration by consulting the guide in the subject of their
interest after verifying their eligibility.

1) Candidates who have qualified JRF fellowships/lectureship through UGC/CSIR-


NET/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ICAR Examinations/SLET (K-SET)/GATE are exempted
from Entrance Test.
2) Candidates, who have completed M.Phil Course are also exempted from the
entrance test provided the M.Phil/Equivalent course was through an entrance
examination.
3) However all such candidates have to undergo an interview before the
probable guide (s) and obtain the consent/acceptance letter from the guide, if
vacancies are available.

Note: 1. RGNF/MANF/Project Fellows are not exempted from Ph.D Entrance test.

2. Candidates seeking exemptions the Entrance examination are also

advised to apply with out paying the entrance examination fee.


C. Syllabus and question paper pattern for Ph.D Entrance Test:

Syllabus for the entrance test is available subject-wise in the University website.

1) Part A shall contain 50 Objective type questions of one Mark each.


2) Part B shall contain an Essay type/short answer question for 50 marks.
3) Duration of the examination will be 3(Three) hours only.

D. Procedure to apply online:

See the website: http://uni-mysore.ac.in, fill the application online pay the
application fee and submit completed application form (hard copy) to The Co-
ordinator, Ph.D Entrance and Course work Cell, Directorate of Research, University of
Mysore, Mysore-570005.

E. Application fee:

a) General Merit candidates: Rs. 2000/-


b) SC/ST/Cat-1/ candidates Rs. 750/-

The bank challan can be downloaded from the university website


http://uni-mysore.ac.in and payment can be made through Online/Challan in any of
the nationalized banks. No other mode of payment is accepted.

F. General Instructions:

1. There is no upper age limit to apply for the Ph.D Entrance test.
2. Foreign Nationals with Indian/Foreign degrees have to contact the Director,
International Centre, University College of Fine Arts premises,
Manasagangotri, Mysuru-570006, and submit the application for admission to
Ph.D Degree. These candidates are expected to follow the overseas students
admission norms (for eg- Equivalence certificates, award of scholarships from
host country etc.,) in addition to the norms of 2016 Ph.D Regulations of the
University of Mysore.
3. Any correspondence with regard to Ph.D Entrance Exam must be addressed to
The Co-ordinator, Ph.D Entrance Cell, Directorate of Research, University of
Mysore, Pareeksha Bhavan (Behind Crawford Hall), Mysore-570005.

Please note that candidates/Research Supervisors are required to adhere strictly to


the Ph.D Regulations 2016.
