Preface to the 13th edition

Preface

The 13th edition gives you up-to-date information gas presure reducing and flow measure- ment equipment . The booklet includes products of the newest RMG developments, giving a complete overview of the RMG product and service range. Basic technical data has been collected in the RMG booklet. The stated characteristics, ranges and values were valid at the time this edition was being produced, but we reserve the right for technical improvements.

Hint for planning engineers:

It is possible to choose the correct device needed either from the booklet, or by using the determination modules on the internet or the RMG CD-ROM. If you need further information, we are at your disposal to give you all the further details you require and to send you corresponding leaflets on any product:

The leaflets “General Description *.00“ give exact measurements, connection details, a de-

scription of the working principle, etc

refer to the linked PDF-files on the internet and the RMG CD-ROM). The set-up instructions given in the „General Operating Instructions for Gas Pressure Regu- lators and Safety Devices“ should also be observed. Important extracts are to be found on pages 372 ff. Moreover, our engineers are at your service to pass on any technical advice which could be of any help. We also invite you to participate in our seminars which offer you another great possibility for increasing your knowledge about gas pressure regulating and metering systems.

Pressure Regulation Flowrate Coefficients

Regulator Designation

calculation of flowrate coefficients

The valve flowrate coefficient K G is an important parameter for the choice of RMG gas pressure regulators

The K G -value indicates the flowrate of the valve in full open position under an absolute inlet pressure of p e = 2 bar and an absolute outlet pressure of p a =1 bar. The K G -value is deter- mined under standard conditions on a test stand with air as a gaseous medium. The K G - value is a factor which indicates the flowrate capacity of a gas pressure regulator.

All K G -values stated in the RMG-leaflets refer to natural gas as a flowrate medium ( ρρρρρ n = 0.83 kg/m 3 ).

The diagram on page 15 shows the graphic method to determine the flowrate coefficient K G required for given service data of

min. inlet pressure max. outlet pressure

max. flowrate

p e min p a max q n max

This graphic determination is based on the following formulas for approximate flowrate calculation valid for natural gas:

flowrate coefficient K G for subcritical pressure drop

flowrate coefficient K G for supercritical pressure drop

Pressure for the formulas to be inserted in absolute values; pressure in diagram to be read as overpressures.

Pressure Regulation Flowrate Coefficients

Regulator Designation

Note!

The flowrate coefficient of the regulator chosen should always be higher than the flowrate coefficient determined from the diagram or calculated through the formulas in order to ensure sufficient reserve capacity for the regulating operation. We recommend to choose a regulator with a flowrate coefficient of approximately 10% above the required value.

Attention!

For regulators with internal measuring impulse the gas velocity in the outlet duct (measuring point of outlet pressure) should not exceed v = 20 m/s. Please also refer to the „General Operating Instructions for Gas Pressure Regulators and Safety Devices, Examples of installations“ (extract see page

372)

In the general regulating and metering terminology the flowrate capacity of a valve canalso be indicated by its k vs -value. The relation between k vs and K G is given in ithe following equation:

K G = 34 · k vs

in m 3 /h

Pressure Regulation Conversion to Other Gases

For other gases, the flowrate should be converted into the equivalent natural gas flowrate:
