I get this failed message every time I attempt to download anything

(pictures, PDF's, documents, programs). I uninstalled my virus soft-
ware (Mcaffee) and the problem still persists. I have looked and I
don't see any other virus protection in the program list. The issue is
happening with Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Operating system is Windows 7 (64bit).

Please help!!!

Hi Casey,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
From your issue description I understand that whenever you try to
download any pictures, PDF's, documents you get an error message
Virus Scan Failed

In order to help you better please provide us the following informa-

tion:
1) How did you uninstall the anti-virus program?
2) What Is the complete error message you get?

To fix the issue with the error message you can follow these steps:

Method 1: Uninstall complete MacAfee traces.

Whenever you install nay anti-virus program some of the traces of
the anti-virus programs will be saved in the registry of the operating
system, and it will not be deleted when you uninstall the program.

I would request you to download the MacAfee removal tool and re-
move the traces
Refer to this link:
http://mcafee-removal-tool.com/

Method 2:
Step a: safe Mode
It Starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services, If a
problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can
eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services
as possible causes.
Refer to this link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-com-
puter-in-safe-mode

If the issue does not persist in safe mode then follow step b

Step b: Clean Boot.

Perform clean boot to identify if any 3rd party service is causing this
issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to
boot to normal startup.
a) Press the Windows + R key on the keyboard.
b) In the Run windows type MSCONFIG and click Ok.
c) On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then
click OK.
d) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

I am having the same issue with both I.E. 10 and on Google Chrome,
I understand the steps described, but I do not understand why I
would disable MacAfee? I have it installed, I know the documents
and downloads do not have any virus, so why would I uninstall it?

OMG,

It worked!! Thank you so much! I've been dealing with this problem
for more than half a year and have tried many things that didn't
work but have been reluctant to re-format due to being in the mid-
dle of several projects recently. Turns out there was a piece of
zonealarm called forcefield.exe still on my computer and causing
the trouble even though I deleted zonealarm ages ago.

Phew! Finally back to normal.

This works but instead of using "1" use "0" and it will stop all scans.
Make sure though, if you do this, to make sure you know what it is
that you're downloading and the possibility of actually infecting
yourself with a virus. Make sure to keep your anti-virus up to date
and keep anti-spyware software installed just in case.
