O
ctober always brings along the SEMA Show in Las Vegas where
we preview new products and technology that will be introduced
in the aftermarket and automotive world. We are always excited
to see whats on the horizon in our industry and share those things with you,
the reader as they are released to us.
We are starting to feel a little chill in the air which brings with it the
itch of wanting outside to go off-roading, RVing or simply tinker with our
toys. This issue of Sportsmans Gear takes a look at awesome new trucks
that you are going to fall in love with like the Honda Ridgeline and Toyota
Tacoma, just to name a couple. Be sure and see all of the options we share

In June of 2017, Omix-ADA held the
2nd Annual Jeep Heritage Expo at their
headquarters in Suwanee, Ga. A hot southern
Saturday afternoon seems the perfect time to
hold such an event; providing opportunity
for Jeep enthusiasts to gather from near and
far and relish in the shared passion for Jeeps
from all generations. Spectators are treated
to a tour of the companys vast museum
collection of historic Jeep vehicles dating
back to 1941 and featuring several rare
specimens not likely to be seen anywhere
else, much less in one room. With hundreds
of Jeeps in attendance and participating in
an expansive show & shine area, attendees
are given an up-close look at what the
Jeep lifestyle is all about. With all of the
proceeds from the event going to assist the
local chapter of Habitat For Humanity, its
exciting to see the number of Jeeps that roll
into the event grounds; some are shined to
showroom perfection while others are still
adorned in mud from some recent off-road
adventure. To a true Jeep enthusiast, its not
how youre dressed that matters but rather
that you are there. The event turned out to
be an overwhelming success and, in turn,

2017 Toyota Tacoma
The 2017 Tacoma is available in 31
models based on two cab types, the extended
Access Cab and four-door Double Cab,
each available in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations.
Access Cab models offer under-seat rear
storage space, and their fold-up seat cushions
maximize carrying space. Double Cab mechanical limited slip differential when
models feature 60/40 split rear seats with
adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.
The Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-
inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long
bed. The Double Cab is offered in two
versions: the 127.4-inch wheelbase with a
60.5-inch bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with
the 73.7-inch bed.
Both bed styles are designed to take
punishment with an inner bed made from a
sheet-molded composite (SMC) deck and
tough, durable walls that are 10-percent
lighter than steel. The bed deck features two-
tier loading and an integrated deck-rail utility
system with four standard adjustable tie-
down cleats.
Just about whatever you need to carry,
the deck rail system can do it. Its compatible
with Genuine Toyota Accessories, including
a cargo divider that locks into the rails to
help keep cargo from sliding around the bed,
and mini tie-downs with hooks that also help
to secure cargo. An available 120V/400W
power point further extends the beds utility.
The Adventure Enabler
All Tacoma 4x4 models are equipped
with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with an
electronically controlled transfer case
and Automatic Limited Slip Differential
(Auto LSD). Auto LSD is an electronic,
brake actuated system that functions like a
Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual
activated a low speeds. Tacoma TRD Sport
models are equipped with sport-tuned
shocks. TRD Off-Road models include an
off-road tuned suspension equipped with
Bilstein shocks.
Tacoma off-roading adventures will

with an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen

Play and Android Auto, which gives buyers
seamless connectivity, fingertip access
to smartphone map mirroring, and up-to-
the minute weather maps and forecasts
customizable to any location in the nation.
The Harvest Edition features a premium
exterior appearance packed with bright
highlights, including a chrome Wave
Mesh luxury cross-hair grille, bright front
and rear bumpers, 17-inch chrome wheels
(1500 models, 18-inch polished aluminum
on Heavy Duty models), chrome mirrors,
chrome door handles and chrome-tipped dual
exhausts (V-8 1500 models).
The Harvest package also includes body-
color (or Bright Silver) wheel flares and
upper facia (1500). In addition to Case Red
and New Holland Blue, Harvest Edition Ram
trucks are also available in Bright White and

2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD
New for 2017, Chevrolet Silverado HD
trucks feature a patented air intake system
that drives cool, dry air into the engine for
sustained performance and cooler engine
temperatures during difficult driving
conditions. The intake system underwent
extensive testing based on the most
challenging real-world driving conditions to
ensure capable performance no matter the
weather.
Marked by a dramatic hood scoop, the
all-new air intake system provides 60 percent
of the air to the Duramax diesel engine
from an inlet at the front of the hood. The
air provided to the engine is very close to
the outside ambient temperature and much
cooler than the air under the hood.
Cooler air helps the engine run better
under load, especially in conditions where
engine and transmission temperatures can
rise quickly. Running cooler allows the
Duramax diesel to maintain full power and
vehicle speed for capable trailering in even
the toughest conditions.
Theres also a ram-air effect from the
incoming air at highway speed that helps
pack more air into the engine. The air filter
housing also draws 40 percent additional
air from a dry location in one of the front
fenders. It blends with the cooler air from
the hood inlet before funneling into the
Duramaxs combustion chambers. This
assures the engine can breathe even if the
hood is completely blocked.
At more than 11,000 feet above sea
level, the Eisenhower Tunnel, is the highest
vehicle tunnel in the world and one of the
highest elevations for any roadway in North
America.
Maximized engine performance requires
more than cool air; the air must also be clean
and dry. Accordingly, the functional hood
scoop includes a unique air/water separator
to ensure only combustion-enhancing dry
air is drawn into the engine. The air charge
enters an expansion chamber containing a
sharp, 180-degree turn on its way to the air
filter housing. That creates a velocity change

that causes humidity or mist to form larger,
heavier droplets that are flung centrifugally
against the outside wall of the housing.
The collected water drains through a valve,
while the air charge continues on to the filter
housing and into the engine.
Testing the effectiveness of the system
was rooted in real-world driving conditions
of every degree from misty rains to
monsoon-level downpours; from powdery
snow to wind-driven ice pellets; from desert
dust to arctic cold.
2017 GMC Sierra HD All Terrain X
The 2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X, the
most off-road-capable model in the Sierra
HD lineup, and one that matches its
enhanced capability with trail-ready style and
the brands signature refinement.
It joins Canyon and Sierra 1500 this fall
as the third model in GMCs distinctive,

2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
builds on the current models fun-to-drive
character with a redesign specifically
engineered to meet the needs of American
customers, with a more sophisticated and
spacious interior, flexible seating, and high-
tech infotainment and available driver-
assistance features.
As with the all-new 2018 Volkswagen
Atlas full-size SUV, the new Tiguan is based
on Volkswagens Modular Transverse Matrix
(MQB) architecture. Compared with the
2017 model, the new Tiguan has far more
interior space and up to 58 percent more
cargo space in the two-row model. At 185.1
inches long, the 2018 model is 10.6 inches
longer than the current version and 8.5
inches longer than the Tiguan that is sold
in Europe. Tiguans expanded dimensions
give it one of the longest footprints in the
segment, although it still remains nimble
enough to excel in urban driving.

The S trim is distinguished by halogen
headlights, LED daytime running lights and
taillights, foglights with cornering function,
heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn-
signal indicators, and 17-inch Montana
wheels. The SE trim wears 17-inch Tulsa
wheels and features heated exterior mirrors,
and a chrome exterior package. The Tiguan
SEL includes 18-inch Nizza wheels, a
power liftgate, and silver roof rails.
The top-of-the-line SEL Premium trim
is shod with 19-inch Victoria Falls
wheels, LED headlights with the Adaptive
Front-lighting System (AFS), rain-sensing
wipers, and power-folding exterior mirrors
with puddle lights. The SEL Premium also
features a hands-free Easy Open power
liftgate, which is foot-activated on opening to
make Tiguans cargo space more accessible
when customers hands are full. The liftgate
also includes an Easy Close feature. Two
buttons give owners the option to close the
liftgate with the touch of a buttonone to
close it immediately and one to automatically
close once you step away from the vehicle.
An R-Line package will be available
later in the model year for the SEL and SEL
Premium, and includes R-Line-specific
aluminum-alloy wheels19-inch Trenton
wheels for the SEL and 20-inch Braselton
wheels for the SEL Premium. Further design
elements specific to the R-Line are a revised
high-gloss front bumper with large air inlets,
a unique rear bumper, wheelarch extensions,
and R-Line side skirts and exterior badging.
The exterior design of Tiguan also
emphasizes its rugged utility. The front
bumper, for instance, is similar to the
European models off-road package,
complementing the Tiguans available
4Motion all-wheel-drive system with a
26-degree approach angle. Other indications
of its off-road capability are a 23-degree
departure angle and 7.9 inches of ground
clearance.
Roof rails are standard, allowing outdoors
enthusiasts to upgrade the vehicle with
Volkswagen accessories such as bike, kayak,
and ski carriers. The new Tiguan has a lower
lift-in height for the tailgate, making it
easier to load, no matter what cargo youre
carrying. The available towing hitch can
be used to pull up to 1,500 pounds when
properly equipped.
The Tiguans entire interior has been
rethought and refreshed, but the versatility
of its seating is what sets it apart from
the competition. In front-wheel-drive
Tiguan models, three rows of seating are
standard, including a second-row bench
that can recline, slide seven inches fore and
aft, fold down, and be split 40/20/40. The
50/50 split third-row provides seating for
two, and also folds down. When configured
with Volkswagens 4Motion all-wheel-drive
technology, the 2018 Tiguan comes standard
with two rows and a third row is optional.
In three-row models, folding the rear seat
creates 33 cubic feet of rear cargo space, and
that can be easily expanded to a maximum
of 65.7 cubic feet by folding the second row,
using the levers in the cargo area. With all
three rows in place, there is still a handy 12
cubic feet of cargo space.
In two-row models, the new Tiguan
supplies a generous 37.6 cubic feet of space
behind the rear seats and 73.5 cubic feet in
all. That represents an increase of 17.4 cubic
feet over the maximum cargo space in the
2017 Tiguan. The 40/20/40 split seats allow
the two-row Tiguan to accommodate skis,
fishing gear, or other large items.
2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica
Hybrid the industrys first electrified
minivan is rated to deliver a range of 33
miles solely on zero-emissions electric power
from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery
and earned a fuel economy rating of 84
miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe), based
on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) standards. But Pacifica Hybrids
technological capability goes well beyond
the powertrain.
Hybrid Electric Pages
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid comes
standard with the Uconnect 8.4 system,
which includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen,
available Uconnect Navigation and Uconnect
Access connected services. In addition,
the Pacifica Hybrid includes as standard
equipment on all models the all-new Hybrid
Electric Pages, providing owners with
helpful vehicle information. The Hybrid

film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster
is unique to the hybrid model, delivering
important information at a glance for the
driver. The customizable clusters display
changes color to indicate whether the
Pacifica is operating in electric mode (teal)
or hybrid mode (blue), while both the battery
level and fuel level are always displayed.
The Pacifica Hybrids total range (combining
both battery and fuel) is also displayed.

efficiency coach, which guides owners

coach directs the driver on how to modulate

2017 Toyota Sienna

from Toyota. The Sienna, which has already
pushed the boundaries of minivan-ness with
its sporty SE trim and Swagger Wagon
persona, gets yet another injection of
peppiness and efficiency in the form of an
all-new direct-injection V6 engine and Direct
Shift 8AT, 8-speed automatic transmission.
The new-for-2017 upgrades improve
the original Swagger Wagons comfort,
performance, and fuel efficiency.
Of course, the Sienna remains ever the

up range and enhance efficiency. Combined
with enhancements from the new 3.5L
engine, it is anticipated to receive higher
fuel economy ratings of 19/27 MPG on the
city/highway cycles for front-wheel drive
variants, up from the outgoing editions
estimated 18/25 miles-per-gallon.

is available for the LE, XLE and Limited,
providing an important all-weather traction
advantage that is not found in any other

2017 Mini Cooper S Countryman
Ever since it was launched in 2010 the
MINI Countryman has been winning over
drivers with its distinctive design. The
second generation of the Sports Activity
Vehicle is equally as compact as its
successful forebear and makes a convincing
statement through its authentic design. Visual
anchor points shared elsewhere in the brand
family include the floating helmet roof,
the chrome strip on the shoulderline and

classical MINI design features. And the
new MINI Countryman extends the theme,
with headlamps fully encircled by daytime

The design language of the new MINI
Countryman is now more pared-back and
modern. The car has sharper lines and
