Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide students with an integrated language arts
study in reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and literature. This course provides a
foundation that prepares students for high school and college career readiness.
Through this course of study, students will examine and apply the rules of grammar to their writing
through an integrated process. Additionally, they will read both fiction and nonfiction pieces and
develop written responses to the readings. They will demonstrate their ability to comprehend,
interpret, analyze, and evaluate what is read. Students will also utilize a variety of resources that
include the Collections Text, Newsela, Vocabulary.com, MyAccess, and Legacy. As part of our
