„ Introduction
KP3 Editor lets you use your computer to store data you've saved on the KP3, or to edit the parameters of the
KP3. You can also load WAVE format or AIFF format sample files from your computer into the KP3.

You can transfer the following data between KP3 Editor and the KP3.
KP3 All Data This contains four samples, the program memory set, and the global data.
The file name has an extension of ".kpa".
Sample Data This is data for one sample. The file name has an extension of ".kps".
Program Memory Set This contains data for eight program memories. The file name has an
extension of ".kpp".
Global Data This data consists of the Ext.Ctrl parameters and the global parameters.
The file name has an extension of ".kpg"

Don't transmit or receive data while sampling on the KP3, while playing back a sample, or while making
funcion settings.
Don't operate the KP3 while data is being transmitted or received. If an error message is displayed while
data is being transmitted or received, check the connections between the KP3 and the MIDI driver.

„ Setup
1. Start up KP3 Editor.
2. From the menu, choose "MIDI" - "Preferences..." (Mac: from the Application menu choose
"Preferences...").
A preferences dialog box will appear.
3. In "MIDI Port" make sure that "Auto Detect" is selected. If it is not selected, click the check box to
select it.
If multiple KP3 units are connected, clear the "Auto Detect" check box, and manually specify
the MIDI port to which the KP3 for which you want to make settings is connected.
4. Click [OK] to close the preferences dialog box.

„ Screen items and their function

Items common to all pages

[OPEN] button
Opens a KP3 All Data file.
[SAVE] button
Saves the currently-edited data as a KP3 All Data file.
[RECEIVE] button
Receives all data from the KP3.
[TRANSMIT] button
Transmits all currently-edited data to the KP3.
The sample data is not saved on the SD card, and will be cleared when you turn off the power. If you
want to save it to the SD card, operate the KP3 itself to save the sample data to the SD card.

These tabs select the editing page that is visible.

Sample Librarian page


Here you can view and edit sample data.

Bank select tabs


Select the bank that you want to edit.
You can exchange samples by dragging and dropping a tab, and you can copy a sample by holding down the
Ctrl key (Mac: Option key) while you drag and drop.
Preview button
Preview-plays the selected bank.
[IMPORT] button
Loads sample data from your computer into the selected bank. ("Importing a WAVE file or AIFF file")
[EXPORT] button
Saves the sample data of the selected bank as a file on your computer. You can save this data as one of three
different formats; a KP3 sample data file, a Wave file, or an AIFF file.
[RECEIVE] button
Receives the selected bank from the KP3 itself.
[TRANSMIT] button
Transmits the selected bank to the KP3 itself.
The sample data is not saved on the SD card, and will be cleared when you turn off the power. If you
want to save it to the SD card, operate the KP3 itself to save the sample data to the SD card.
Sample Type
Specifies the type of sample.
Original BPM
Specifies the BPM of the sample data. ("Importing a WAVE file or AIFF file")
[TAP] button
Press this button several times to set the Original BPM to the interval at which you pressed the button.

Beat
Specifies the Beat of the sample data. ("Importing a WAVE file or AIFF file")
Sample waveform
This area shows the sample waveform of the selected bank.
Slice Trigger buttons
Turn each slice on/off.

Program Memory edit page


Here you can view and edit the program memory set.

[LOAD] button
Loads a KP3 program memory set file.
[SAVE] button
Saves the program memory set as a KP3 program memory set file. An extension of ".kpp" will be added.
[RECEIVE] button
Receives the program memory set from the KP3 itself.
[TRANSMIT] button
Transmits the program memory set to the KP3 and writes it.
Program number
Specifies the program number for each Program Memory 1--8.
Pad motion
Indicates the length of the pad motions recorded for each Program Memory 1--8.

Global Data edit page


Here you can view and edit global data.

[LOAD] button
Loads a KP3 global data file.
[SAVE] button
Saves the global data as a KP3 global data file. An extension of ".kpg" will be added.
[RECEIVE] button
Receives global data from the KP3 itself.
[TRANSMIT] button
Transmits global data to the KP3 itself and writes it.
Page select tabs
Select the page that you want to see.

Ext.Ctrl edit page


Here you can view and edit Ext.Ctrl parameters.

Controller select
Selects the controller that you want to edit.
Touch pad pattern
Selects the pattern for the Touch pad.
Controller parameters
Here you can view and edit the settings for each controller. For details on the parameters, refer to "Ext.Ctrl
parameters".

„ Saving KP3 All Data to your computer


Here's how you can save the sample data, program memory set, and global data of the KP3 itself to your
computer as a KP3 All Data file.
1. In the upper part of the window, click the [RECEIVE] button.
The KP3 itself will transmit its data to KP3 Editor. When KP3 Editor finishes receiving the data, the
settings of the various parameters will appear in the window.
2. In the upper part of the window, click the [SAVE] button.
The "Save KP3 All Data" dialog box will appear.
3. Assign a file name, specify the saving location, and then click the [Save] button.
The file will be saved in the location you specified.

„ Loading KP3 All Data into the KP3 itself


Here's how you can load a KP3 All Data file previously saved on your computer into the KP3 itself.
1. In the upper part of the window, click the [OPEN] button.
The "Open KP3 All Data" dialog box will appear.
2. Select a file that has an extension of ".kpa" and click [Open].
The KP3 All Data file will be loaded, and the settings of the various parameters will appear in the
window.
3. In the upper part of the window, click the [TRANSMIT] button.
The KP3 All Data will be loaded into the KP3 itself.

„ Importing a WAVE file or AIFF file


Here's how a WAVE file or AIFF file saved on your computer can be converted into sample data that the
KP3 can use, and imported into the KP3.
1. Access the Sample Librarian page.
2. Select the bank into which you want to import the data, and click the [IMPORT] button.
The file selection dialog box will appear.
3. Select a WAVE file or AIFF file, and click [Open].
The sample data will be loaded, and the sample waveform will be displayed.
4. Specify whether the sample is a loop sample or a one-shot sample. If it is a one-shot sample, this
step completes the Import process.
5. In the Beat field, specify the number of beats that this sample occupies.
6. Click the preview button to play back the sample, and click the [TAP] button several times in rhythm
with the sample. This will set the Original BPM of the sample, if you were unsuccessful in setting the
Original BPM, you can make fine adjustments to the Original BPM by referring to the preview
playback and the sample waveform display.

The WAVE of AIFF files that can be loaded are 44.1/48 kHz, 8/16/24-bit linear PCM files in mono or
stereo formats.

„ Ext.Ctrl parameters

Program Memory 1--8 ON/OFF Turns message transmission on/off.


Sample Bank A--D OFF
Hold SW ON
Pad Touch Assign Type Specifies the message that will be transmitted.
CC:A control change message will be transmitted.
Note:A note message will be transmitted.
Control Specifies the control change number that will be transmitted.
Change # You can set this if Assign Type is set to "CC".
Control Change Number [0...127]
Note# Specifies the note number that will be transmitted.
You can set this if Assign Type is set to "Note".
Note Number [C-1...G9]
MIDI Channel Specifies the MIDI channel on which the message will be

Off Value Specifies the value of the control change that is transmitted
when the key is turned off. This can be set only if Assign Type is
"CC".
Off Value [0...127]
On Value Specifies the value of the control change that is transmitted
when the key is turned on. This can be set only if Assign Type is
"CC".
On Value [0...127]
Switch Type Specifies how the switch will operate.
Momentary:The On Value is transmitted when you press the
switch, and the Off Value is transmitted when you release the
switch.
Toggle:The On Value and Off Value are transmitted alternately
each time you press the switch.
ON/OFF Turns message transmission on/off.
OFF

Control Specifies the control change number that will be transmitted.
Change # Control Change Number [0...127]
FX Depth MIDI Channel Specifies the MIDI channel on which the message will be

z New
Creates a new KP3 All Data.
z Open
Loads a KP3 All Data file that was saved previously.
z Save
Saves the currently-edited KP3 All Data by overwriting an existing KP3 All Data file.

z Save As
Saves the currently-edited KP3 All Data as a new KP3 All Data file with the name you assign.

Edit
z Cut
Cuts the selected sample data, program memory data, or Ext.Ctrl parameter.
z Copy
Copies the selected sample data, program memory data, or Ext.Ctrl parameter.
z Paste
Pastes the copied content into the selected sample data, program memory data, or Ext.Ctrl parameter.
z Clear
Clears the selected sample data, program memory data, or Ext.Ctrl parameter.

MIDI
z Receive All Data
Receives all data from the KP3 itself.
z Transmit All Data
Transmits all currently0edited data to the KP3 itself.
The sample data is not saved on the SD card, and will be cleared when you turn off the power. If you
want to save it to the SD card, operate the KP3 itself to save the sample data to the SD card.
