Instructions for Upgrading the 38DL PLUS

Using Upgrade2010
***Note the USB Cable is required to upgrade 38DL PLUS with Upgrade2010***
The first step is to obtain the upgrade .bin files for the instrument and Upgrade 2010. Both of
these can either be obtained by going to http://www.olympus-ims.com/en/service-and-
support/downloads/ and selecting Thickness Gages, the 38DL PLUS should be listed there.
You will have to create an account to download the upgrade program.
Upgrade 2010 and the .bin files can also be obtained by E-mailing
thicknessgageinsidesales@olympusndt.com for an FTP link.
NOTE: It is best to save the .bin files to a new folder on your desktop to make them easier to
find later.

Installing Upgrade 2010

***Prior to installing the upgrade make sure no gages are plugged into the computer.***

To run the installation open the Upgrade Utility executable file, when prompted click on
Setup.
After clicking Next on the first window you will have the option to install the program to
the default location (C:\Program Files\Olympus NDT\Upgrade2010\) or to select your own.
Once you have made this choice click Next and then click Next again on the following
screen.
Towards the end of the installation the below window will pop up make sure you click
Continue Anyway.

After this it will say that that Upgrade2010 has been successfully installed click on Close

Upgrading the 38DL PLUS

Put the 38DL PLUS into Monitor mode by pressing and holding the [MEAS] key and
then pressing the [ON/OFF] key. The 38DLP will power up and stay at the blue
monitor screen.
Connect the 38DL PLUS to the PC using the USB cable
Start Upgrade2010 by clicking on the Upgrade2010 icon.
Once it opens you will see the following screen, the first thing to do is to select
38DLP from Select Gage drop down list.

Click on Open Device button. Once the program connects to the unit a message
will appear The gage 38DL PLUS is found.

The next step is to load New Bin Files this is done by clicking on New Bin Files
button and then browsing to the folder (probably on the desktop) that the upgrade Bin
files were saved. A dialog box will come up and say 4 File(s) Copied click OK.

Make sure the Monitor, Application and FPGA check boxes are selected then click
on the Upgrade Grade button and the software will begin upgrading the gage. Once
it is done the program will ask you to turn the 38DL PLUS off then back on and click
[OK] button. This will allow upgrade2010 to upgrade the language file.

After completion click on the EXIT button. Power the gage on and off. On startup
the unit will display the latest version of 38DL Plus Software.
