VERSANT ROUND ENGLISH TEST IN DELOITTE CAMPUS SELECTIONS

PART A: READ

Following points should be kept in mind at the time of Test.

1. DO NOT take call over the loud speaker. You have to pick up the receiver and talk. On loud speaker
your recording will not be clear and you will lose marks.
2. Be loud and clear on the call. Loud doesnt mean you have to shout, but loud enough and be clear in
the ever word you will pronounce.
3. Do not fake your accent, Test will be in American accent but you do not have to imitate but just speak
your normal English. You just have to understand what they are talking.
4. I strongly suggest, you practice reading all 12 sentences in PART-A before you start taking the call,
because you shouldnt struck when it comes to actual call.
5. When I say communication skills test, we are looking for fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary and
sentence mastery which is divided overall in the paper.
6. Do not try to write anything while the test is on.
7. Please ensure that you are in a closed room with good VoIP phone.
8. Be absolutely alert when you hear the recording.
9. Focus. Ignore all distractions.
10. Keep your patience. Do not give long pauses.
11. If you miss something, dont let that affect the next question.
12. The test will go for 20 Mins, switch off your mobile while the test is on.

Sections: Versant Test will have the following Sections.

Part-A Reading: Please read the sentences as you are instructed.


It is the easiest part of the test. A voice will randomly ask you to read out any sentence of the given
twelve on your sheet itself. It will just say the number, you have to look at the number and read the
sentence.

For example, please read the sentence number 5, and you will locate where 5 is and read the sentence
with good pronunciation, loud and clear voice.

Useful tip here is Do not read it in a monotonic way, have intonation in your voice and read fluently.
Below are few sample questions:

1. From his front window, Charles noticed a van pull up next door.
2. It looked as if his new neighbors are finally in.
3. The old neighbors have a noisy dog and a boy who loved loud music.
4. Fortunately for Charles, his new neighbors have no pets and kids.
5. Office supplies at work are always running low.
6. The purchasing manager never has time to order the items we need.
7. People who work with me have had trouble because of this.
8. One of the clerks asks if he could order the office supplies himself.
9. For most people, commuting to work in this area is a nightmare.
10.During peak hours, a drive across town takes much longer than it should.
11. With everyone in different schedules, its hard to share a ride to work.
12. And for many, public transportation is not an option.
13. All her life, Cathy has wanted to learn to play the piano.
14. In last weeks local paper, she noticed a beginners piano course.
15. They guaranteed a method to teach you to play by ear in three months.
16. Her goal is to play a short piece for her thirtieth birthday.
17. When we first moved to this neighborhood, there were almost no children.
18. The park across the street is always empty.
19. Now, twelve years older, the park is usually filled with children.
20. The neighborhood school is filled to capacity too.
21. Karen shares a house with a college friend.
22. Her dream is to move out of the city and get a large house with a yard.
23. More than anything, she wants a big garden with flowers and fruit trees.
24. For now, she has a few house plants on a shelf by her window.
25. Jeff bought a second hand television set last weekend.
26. When he brought it home and plugged it in, he couldnt get a clear picture.
27. So, he took it in to a local TV repair shop to be fixed.
28. For what the repair cost, it would have been cheaper to buy a new one.
29. When my parents go on a trip, they use a travel agent to book their trips.
30. Everything is planned for them, except for what to pack.
31. When I plan a trip, I prefer to find cheap ticket and hotels.
32. I pack a good travel guide and explore on my own.
33. Last night Pat and Tom had friends over to their apartment for dinner.
34. While Pat cooked, her husband said he would tidy up and put things away.
35. Just before the friends arrived, Pat went to the bathroom to change clothes.
36. There she found all the things that Tom had put away, piled on the floor.
37. In the winter, Laura and Pete use a gas heater to warm the house.
38. When its left on all the time, the air gets very dry.
39. Laura doesnt mind the dry heat when gets very dry.
40. But they plan to install a new heater before next winter.
41. Electronic communications have change the way people do business.
42. Almost everyone uses computers to send messages.
43. This makes it easier to communicate about complex projects.
44. Unfortunately, it also takes from doing the actual work.
45. The city budget for next year was approved last night.
46. The parks and recreation costs will remain about the same as this year.
47. There will be only a slight increase in spending.
48. However, the total spent on salaries is going to increase by ten percent.
49. Two large telephone companies will combine into one organization.
50. They expect to be much more efficient than before.
51. By combining resources, they say theyll save more money for their customers.
52. Unfortunately, they will also lay off several thousand employees.
53. After graduation from college, many students take the summer to travel.
54. Often its the first chance for students to go overseas without their parents.
55. Usually they go with one or two friends and share travel expenses.
56. Its often the first real opportunity to use their foreign language skills.
57. Next week Rachels relatives from Spain are coming for a three week visit.
58. Entertaining them is not difficult, since they are very easy-going people.
59. Her cousin loves to shop, her nephew swims and her niece loves walking.
60. The only tricky part is getting them to eat dinner at six, instead of ten.
61. Joe decided to sell his car last spring.
62. Now he gets up early so he can walk to the train station in the morning.
63. His travel time is longer, but at least he doesn't worry about parking.
64. Joe's boss has even offered to pay half of the cost of his train tickets.
65. The corner of Eighth Street and Main has become a dangerous place.
66. There have been four traffic accidents there in the past month.
67. In one of them, a boy on a bicycle was seriously injured.
68. We need to put in a new traffic light before someone else gets hurt.
69. Buying bicycle parts without any expertise can be difficult.
70. Products can range widely in price and yet not be very different.
71. Even worse, some accessories are useless and could even be dangerous.
72. Bike shop sales assistants are not always helpful to the average rider.

Part-B: Repeat.

Please repeat each sentence that you hear

A voice will say a sentence, listen to the voice and repeat. For Ex: leave town on the next train, and you
answer Leave town on the next train.

The length of the sentence will go on increase as you move forward.

Useful tip would be, in case you will miss on the sentence, go ahead and repeat whatever you heard
even if it a last two words of the sentence. Please consider the below sample questions.

1. If you could prove it, youre not at fault.


2. Summer starts in September.
3. The mall goers went to see the actors parade.
4. The police investigated the crime scene with caution.
5. Could you type this out for me?
6. Will you attend the ceremony tomorrow at the gym?
7. The bus arrived late due to heavy traffic.
8. She cooked pasta for the kids and salad for the parents.
9. The teacher asked a very difficult question.
10. Are you available to meet on Saturday?
11.Kindly buy a ticket going to the province.
12.Living life to the fullest is my motto.
13. The veterinarian made sure that all the animals were okay.
14. A number of trainees were roaming around the auditorium.
15. Please distribute the souvenirs to the guests.
16. The manager made some changes to our duty roster.
17. Can you let me try one?
18. The associates went to the venue to check the shipment.
19. Law enforces held a man who made a scene.
20. The care takers moved the boxes to the next room.
21. The students filled registration forms for enrollment.
22. The steak here is tastier than the lamb chops.
23. Will you visit the cemetery next weekend?
24. There were 50-60 people in the seminar yesterday.
