The Analysis of Romantic aspects which portrayed in Lord

Byrons She Walks in Beauty

Introduction

Romanticism came into being in a time that was characterized by extreme changes and
revolutions. The Industrial Revolution (mid 18th -19th century) saw a huge shift in
technological advancement and cultural conditions. In the late 18th century there was the
American (1775-83) and French (1789-99) Revolutions. Romantics took some of their ideas
from radical English political writings, such as Thomas Paines The Rights of Man. France
was in turmoil the revolutionaries there executed many people, even each other.

From 1789 to roughly 1840, which marked the end of its peak The Romantic Period was
preceded by the Neoclassical, or Augustan Period, in which over a century of classical
formality and strict conventions had taken place. Now at the turn of the century, artists were
looking to break these bonds and explore non-classical themes and genres.
What really brought this Era into being was the publishing of Lyrical Ballads in 1798, a
collection of poems by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. The poetry presented a
new idea poetry should tell of experiences through personal emotion and imagination, and the
best experiences were to be found in nature.

Lord Byron was one of the most important figures of the Romantic Movement; a period when
English Literature was full of virtuous heroes and themes of love and triumph. Byron's work,
active life, and physical beauty came to be considered the perfect image of the romantic poet-
hero. He was born on January 22,1788 in London into a noble family and died on April
19,1824 in Missologhi, Greece. Lord Byron discovered that he was attracted to both men and
women in his early teens. His affection for both genders made him to live a separate,
secretive, and remote life in his youth. Lord Byron's childhood was full of play and
adventures..

Due to Romantic Period, many of poets had made their works especially in poetry which
mostly of them made the poetry based on their experience or reflection about revolution
movement. In that case,, I prefer choose Lord Byrons She Walks in Beauty; because this
poetry has made the readers to fall in fantasy. I think that this poetry is expressing the
freedom of Byron who describe about the beautiful woman. This thing has remembered me
about the story of Romeo and Juliet which tell about the teenager falling love with the girl.
And finally, they were dead due to silly thing even though the story is very romantic and have
a lot flirting words in it. However, this poetry is very different than Romeo and Juliet story,
because this poetry, only adore the woman that he love. I warn that this poetry is not about
the girl but the woman.

Discussion

Well then, I focus on the analysis about this poetry completely, as we can see that this poetry
is totally describing about the woman who he adore her. There are some aspect to analyze
this poetry which is starting from stanza 1 till 3 and each of lines. After I read this poem,
Nature is mostly appearing in this poetry. Aspect of nature in his poem is not only natural
but afterlife as we can see, he using the word Heaven in the first stanza in line to 6.this
thing means that the romantic influence of Byron is very strong. so that, he can use his
thought way by freedom. In addition, the influence of revolution has made him falling in
freedom.

As we can see that in stanza I, I think that he use a lot of use of nature as an imaging admired
woman. In addition, line I and II use simile as comparing the movement of beautiful woman
to the movement skies. Also on the line of I - III he began to describe a beautiful woman like
night . In the words of the night we could not mention that night is always bad but in the
freedom of Byrons thought, it's a beautiful night. It could be also inspired him to make the
first stanza when he thought and he saw the beauty of the night. It relates with woman that
admired by him. Even though the word of night is symbolized as darkness, but the darkness
was finally filled with stars and without a cloud covering the moon and climate were very
supportive. The evening looks so beautiful in the eyes of Byron.
Then on the line of III, Byron express of the word of dark and bright . In this case , we
can take the symbol of those of the word. Then, it appears a contrast. The dark word is not
always a bad thought, but it reflects a physical woman that he adored. The physical is a form
of the hair which is very beautiful, and with the support of the star element. Then the word
bright can be symbolized as cleanliness and perfection especially refers to the physical
woman instead. That could be her smooth skin and can also be used for his or her eyes very
sparkling.

If those line is linked which has the different symbolism, it could turn into a new meaning
which in my opinion is as the sign of perfection in a woman who none of the defects at all.
And as though she is the most perfect Gods creature in Byrons eyes. Also it can against the
beauty of his wife. Because it was on before opening his own explained Byron was inspired
by her young cousin.

On the line of IV- VI still describes her physical. Which in the Byrons imagination that he
met through an intermediary of inner beauty even her eyes. The word of mellow could refer
to her physical especially on her eyes. Byron imagines to her that she has a soft gaze. Due to
his gentle eyes like a miracle, because there is a soft light on her. And make her like a
goddess descended from the sky. And also Byron adores her with his gently.

Then He uses of imagery that allows the picturing of an angelic looking woman with dark
hair and a light face. The woman, similar to the night creates a "tender light". This type of
light cannot be presented during the day, and is so powerful that not even heaven can bestow
this light on any day. And also, the VI lines in which heaven is substituted for God or for
the upper atmosphere

In line VII - VIII , Byron begins to explain about her thoughts which he reflects her mind was
calm with no burden at all. And it proved in word of Shade and Ray , which could be
intended both words interpreted as a balance . Because if the word which linked by line of
VII, it is implying perfection dignity of women who he adores. So that no one else wants to
touch it even hurt him. Even there is no deserving name for her due to her is very perfect.

Again and again he returned to describe the physical of woman. And also I find the aspect of
nature by using the word " Wave " and " Trees " as a physical representation of women .
Those words are personification and metaphor that explains the details of women. the word
of " Waves" that can be symbolized as a power which could hit other so that they fall into its
power . It is the same with the woman who he imagined that fall in her beauty. And then,
trees as hair. The hair means that captivate a man who wants to love her with the force of her
hair. So that, if combined between the two elements can be meant that the beauty is not
laying on her soul, but his physical as his case her wavy hair that has captivated Byron.
Then on line of X, he shows the other way to captivate him that is his face very sparkling. In
addition, the word of " lightens " can be referred to as a revelation addressed to the Byron .
So that, with those words seems strong for him to obtain the woman.

In line XI - XII Byron describes her personality, which we can see that his nature was a jolly ,
good , and beautiful course. Everyone likes on her so many women who thought he was
special . And considered rare because of its inner beauty so that when compared to other
women is very much of its quality. In line XII are repetition of the words "How , it can be
expressed by Byron that he is very amaze to herself due to her perfection as a woman. And
also, the word of dwelling-place refers to the soul and the word of pure refers to the real
of her characteristic. So that, those words can be combining, it will become new meaning that
is

In line XIII - XV , Byron describes about her physical again. Which is more specific than the
before. That he is interested in her cheeks and her brow. Byron imagines that her physically
very gentle, calm, and eloquent. So that, he judged her that she is very perfect woman that he
ever imagined. Moreover, when she smiles which signifies as victory that he deserve to get
her. Also I find the word/phrase which has comparison, that is The smiles that win, the tints
that glow , which is meant as a balance. And in her characters that she has. So that, it can
coloring the Byrons imagination about the perfection of woman.

In line XVI - XVIII , Byron describes in her inner and outer character of woman . This is
very different from the previous stanza and line . Byron has revealed that this woman has the
same degree as a goddess. And there is statement that goddess is the perfect and great of
woman creature, and its beauty in making people was struck . Also, if it linked in line of
XVII that the womans inner thoughts are also as pure and graceful just as her appearance. In
addition, the woman who has good mind and innocent heart, the lady can bring the beauty of
both darkness and light out and together without contradiction; her purity softens the edges of
the contrast. So that Byron called her as the eternal woman which based on his imagination.
Conclusion

Well, It can be conclude that this poetry exists due to he inspired by the poet's sight of his
young cousin by marriage. So that, he decided to make this poetrys title. I have revealed the
aspects of Romantic in this poetry which is Nature, freedom of thought, and mostly tend to
about woman in each of stanzas and lines. This poetry describes about the physic of inner and
outer beauty of the woman based on Byrons imagination that he ever made. Then, this poem
is dominated using metaphor and personification in term of figurative speech.

She Walks in Beauty
by : Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all thats best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens oer her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and oer that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
