Micro Teach Learning Plan #2 with modification

Title: is it odd to look at even?

Name: Afsheen Ali
Subject/Grade: 3rd/ Math Date Taught:
Type of Instruction: Indirect
Lesson Plan Modifications
Objective: given students two buckets and a set of crayons TSW sort the crayons evenly
into the buckets and orally state whether the given amount of crayon is even or odd by
getting 5 out of 6 correct.

TEKS:
Math 3.4.I
Determine if a number is even or odd using divisibility rules;

Background Information: Addie is behind one grade level with

Students will have basic knowledge of even and odd numbers. Also, students will know math and reading.
division, multiplication, addition and subtraction.

Materials: Have Addie be the helper for

Two containers, sets of crayon, chalks/markers, two dice, calendar, a division worksheet, an teacher, example: pass out
even and an odd chart. worksheet, have her hold the even or
odd chart
Equipment:
Chalk board/ White board

Classroom Management/Environment: the students will be in a small group setting and I would have Addie sit in front near
will use the small group rules and seatwork rules as an example; use soft voices, respect each the corner tables by the teacher desk.
other, participate, raise hand etc. The class will be at the group tables for the entire time.

Engagement/Focus:
Hello class, how are you all today? I want you all to look at this calendar and tell me what is
the date today? Today is the # yes it is the #. Now tell me whether the # is a even number or
odd? That is right because it follows the even or odd rule. Today we will learn how to know
a even or a odd number by the divisibility rule

Explanation/Procedures: I could have Addie come up on

1) I will show the calendar board to solve the division problem
a. The students will point out the date and state if the number is odd or even to improve in her writing skills.
2) I will give 18 crayons and two buckets- This is the assessment.
a. Tell students you will need to sort 18 crayons into two buckets evenly. Count
them as you are putting the crayons in the bucket.
b. At the end of the task ask the students are there any crayon left alone?
Answer no. what does that mean? it is even number.
c. How many crayons are in each of the bucket? 9. That is correct 18 crayons is
evenly divided into two bucket with each 9 crayons in them.
d. What other even numbers can be divided into 18 evenly besides 2? Let look at
the even chart. 6
3) As another example on the board.
a. I will give an even number to use as example. is the number 52 even or odd?
Even. Why? Because the last digit ends with an even number.
b. Now look at the even chart and tell me which number would divide into 52? 2
&4
c. As another example, now look at the odd chart and tell me which number
would divide into 27? 3 & 9
4) Elaboration:
a. I will give the students two dice to roll. The students will add the rolled
numbers together and determine if the number is even or odd.
b. Look at the even or odd chart and tell me which number can be evenly be
divide by the rolled number that you added
5) Extension:
a. I will give the students a worksheet that has division problems. The students
will solve the problems.
b. The students will color orange if the number is evenly divided because it is
even (has a pair). If the answer has a remainder the students will color it
purple because it is odd.

Extension/Elaboration: To have it organized Addie can

color coordinate with her problems
Extension: to know the ones she solved are odd
I will give the students a worksheet that has division problems. The students will solve the or even
problems. The students will color orange if the number is evenly divided because it is even
(has a pair). If the answer has a remainder the students will color it purple because it is odd.

Elaboration:
I will give the students two dice to roll. The students will add the rolled numbers together
and determine if the number is even or odd. Look at the even or odd chart and tell me which
number can be evenly be divide by the rolled number that you added

Closure: you all have done great work today. Lets see how much you have learned. Who
will tell if the number 12 is even or odd? Even, right. Now this is a challenging question,
which one of you will tell me the number that will evenly divide into 12 by looking at the
even chart? 2, 4 and 6. Great! Two more question are left. Is 15 even or odd? Odd. Why?
Because it ends with an odd number. Finally tell me which number will evenly divide into 15
by looking at the odd chart? 3 and 5. Excellent! Was this easy to learn? Yes. Well tomorrow
we are going to learn into more depth about how to solve a problem using even and odd
numbers.

Assessment:
While doing the crayon and bucket activity students will state whether the given amount of
crayons were even or odd by dividing into two buckets getting 5 out of 6 trials correct.

Resources: I will add it later.
