Chapter 1 System Introduction

1-1 Features of the DS-2000 Computer Access Control System

This system is designed under the Windows Operating System, taking advantage of
Windows applications ease of use. Using independently working data collection
controllers, it is possible to collect data off-line. It is easy to expand the system with
its high system storage volume and it is able to satisfy demands of various aspects.
The human-based software interface is fully functional, with a seamless cooperation
between hardware and software; it constitutes the best solution in access control
systems.

1-2 Software and Hardware Requirements

A. PC PENTIUM-800 or better
B. Over 256M RAM
C. 100MB available hard-drive space
D. Operating System WINDOWS98, WINDOWS2000, WINDOWS XP or
WIDOWS 7

Chapter 2 System Installation and Configuration
2-1 Installing the DS-2000

Step 1 Put the DS-2000 CD in your CD-ROM and execute SETUP.exe under the
DS2000 directory.
Step 2Once the installation application starts, the screen will show the
installation initialization window.

Step 3Once the installation application has officially started, press Next and
the screen will show the installation path of DS2000. Please follow the instructed
path and do NOT make any alterations.

Step 4Decompression begins, please wait.


Step 5At this point, please press the Finish button to end the installation
process. Please make a shortcut icon on the desktop pointing to
C:\DS2000\DS2000.exe for quick access to the DS2000 software.

2-2 Operating System Configuration

Before executing the software, please configure your operating system as below:
Enter the Control Panel, under Display, the desktop area should be set to 1024 by 768
pixels, and the fonts should be set to Large (Middle in Windows 7). If the settings are
different, please change it, otherwise the display will not function normally.

2-3 Starting the DS-2000

You may start the program from the desktop icon or from DS-2000 program folder.

Please enter the correct Administrator account and password.


The default account is abc; Password is 1234.

3-1 Setting Up System Administrator Information and Password

Press the Set Administrator Data button on the toolbar to enter this configuration
screen. It is possible to set up to 99 administrators in this system. Please enter the
basic information of each administrator in the corresponding fields, including name,
job position, login name, password, and management levels.

The system is divided up to 6 management levels, please see the contents shown in
Explain level button for the operating details of each level.

3-2 Setting Up Data Collector and Proximity Reader

Press the Set Status of Reader button on the toolbar to enter the setup screen. To
see the system architecture, press the System Diagram button. The system can
connect up to 64 RI-2000 data controllers; each RI-2000 can connect up to 32 RI
series proximity card readers. The system capacity is 2048 RI series proximity card
readers.

Enter the corresponding data of the machine for connecting to the system. For
example, to connect one RI-2000 and two RI series Readers, please enter descriptive
text into the machine descriptions column of the RI-2000 at the left side of the
screen with the number 01, and set the status from OFF to ON. Continue setting
up the corresponding RI series readers at the right side of the screen, and leave this
screen once the setup is complete. The system will automatically save the setup and
process the data, and show the machines in a tree structure to left side of the main
screen.

Upon returning to the main screen, the system will start to communicate with
machines. If the communication is normal, machines will be shown in green text in
the tree structure; if the communication is abnormal, the color of the text will be red
as below.

3-3 Setting Up the Machines Authority Level

Press the Set Power of User button on the toolbar to enter the setup screen. The
left side of the screen shows machines which have been connected to system; the
right side shows machines which were set for each authority level.

First choose machines on left side (multiple selections possible), then press the
Append button to include selected machines to authority level shown on right side.
User can press Delete after selecting machines at the right side to exclude it from
authority level.
Via setting different authority level to each card, user can build up door access
restriction systematically.

3-4 Setting Up Card Users Affiliated Group

Press Set Group of User button on the toolbar to enter setup screen.

Entering Group Code and Group Name in blank spaces, then use Append, Insert,
Replace, and Delete buttons to complete the data entry.

Note: The groups must be planned and entered before continuing to personal data
entry.

3-5 Setting Up and Printing Card Users Personal Information

Press Set Data of User button on the toolbar to enter setup screen.

To build up new users data, select the users affiliated Group first. Then enter User
Code, User name, card number, authority level, and status respectively. And finally,
use Append, Insert, Change, and Delete to complete the data entry.

There are two display modes, single group and all groups. User can select each mode
under Display Mode function.

For printing data, user can press Data Print button accordingly. The data range can
be selected by group code.

Once the printing range is selected, press OK button to enter preview screen.
Press the printer button to begin printing.

For checking authority level, user can press Level look up button. It shows each
authority level which was been set in Set Power of User previously.
It also allows printing function here by pressing Print button.

User can press Data Search button for searching required data.
Entering specific search conditions in right columns, multiple conditions can be
entered. If there is no matched data, the result will be blank.
User can also press Print button to print out the data.

3-6 Count of Machine Cards

Once the personal information has been set up, the system will calculate the number
of cards at each machine as a database for reference. User can check the data by
pressing the Card Count of Reader button on toolbar.

3-7 Append, Delete, or Confirm Machine Card Numbers Based on
Database Information

Once the database has been set up, all data inside can be appended, deleted, or
confirmed in each machine directly.
User can append a new entry by pressing Append button on toolbar. There are
three options can be selected as, Personal, Group, and All.
When Personal is selected, the card numbers will be added to database base on
the unit of ONE PERSON.

When Group is selected, the card numbers will be added to database base on the
unit of ONE GROUP.

When All is selected, the card numbers will be added to database for ALL USERS.

Delete function is used to delete the card number in database.


Confirm function is to check whether the card number exists or not.
The operation of two functions above is the same as Append function.

During above operations, the status bar at the bottom of screen will show whether
the card number under operation is successful and display work progress.

3-8 Checking Machine Operation Records

Press Check the status of download button on the toolbar for checking operating
records. The screen is divided to two lists as top and bottom. The top list shows all
the operation records, the bottom list shows failed operation records. This operation
record also includes information of login and logout data.

3-9 History Records Query and Maintenance

Press the Look up the Log button on the toolbar to enter this screen.

This screen shows personal entry information in real-time, and it also keeps these
history records for query usage. To do a history record search, press Search button
at the top of the screen, enter specific conditions and press Search button. It is also
possible to print search results.
History records can be backed up and reread. Once a certain number of entries is
reached, it may be deleted.

3-10 Single-Machine Operation

Select a machine in the tree structure on the left side of the screen, and a
corresponding operating screen will appear on the right side
A. RI-2000/RI-2100/RI-2200 Data Collector

User can retrieve machine time, setup machine time, and reset machine here.
B. RI Series Proximity Card Reader

User can append, delete, and confirm card numbers on the machine. A batch process
is acceptable. User can also check number of cards, read/set date for machine, clear
record or unlock door. Download/Confirm all cards is useful when new card reader is
added to system.
Press the right mouse button to enter machine parameter setup.

User can set up machine control mode, access mode, card type, door unlock time,
door opening overtime alarm,6 digits password for machine, and 6 digits password
for user.

3-11 Confirming Alarms

When a situation occurs at a front end machine, the system will issue an alarm
message and sound an alarm, the status bar at the bottom of the screen will show
the type of alarm and the number of alarms not confirmed, please press the Cancel
Alarm button to cancel the alarm, and act on the situation.

3-12 Maintenance of Database Information

Press the Keep Data button in the main menu and choose whether to backup or
load all data.

When choosing to Arrange Data, the database will be checked for problems, and
the operator is reminded to take appropriate actions.

3-13 Communication Port Setup

Select Com Port Setting in System in the main menu and select corresponding
RS-232 port. The available selections are COM1 to COM4.

3-14 Exiting the System

Select the Exit function under Help in the main menu.


User can enter the account and password here to exit the system.
