Addendum C: Updating the Marksman Duo Firmware

This addendum supplements the Solo Series Operation Manual, Rev. C and explains the steps of
updating the Marksman Duo IPC firmware. This procedure may also be used to update the firmware
on the Marksman Duo HR and Vx versions.

Equipment required:

Laptop or Desktop PC running Windows XP

*** Windows Vista is incompatible with this procedure ***
Marksman Duo Controller
Marksman Duo Firmware Update Installation program (available on the FoxJet website)

NOTE: Windows Vista is incompatible with this procedure. For assistance in configuring the
Ethernet Connection between the PC and Marksman Duo, See Appendix E:
Configuring a PC to Communicate with the Controller in the SoloSeries Operators
manual Part Number 5780-329.

Instructions for updating the Marksman Duo Firmware:

This procedure assumes that you have successfully booted the computer and exited any programs that
are running.

1. Navigate to the directory in which you placed the Marksman Duo Firmware Update software.
Double-click on the installation package.

NOTE: If you downloaded the Marksman Duo update software off the FoxJet website, it is
likely named v5-2-0905121045.zip or similar. Simply double-click the zip file which will
display the setup file, v5-2-0905121045.exe or similar. Double Click on this exe to
start the installation.

2. Depending on your security

preferences in Windows XP, the
system may present a warning
before launching the setup
wizard. If so, click Run to
continue. The Welcome screen
will appear. Ensure that the
program indicates that it will
install X.X.X firmware on your
computer. Click Next to proceed.

3. To continue, type the IP address of the Marksman Duo that you

wish to update. The default IP address of the Marksman Duo is
10.1.2.3.

4. By default, the setup program will

automatically backup and restore
the data currently on the
Marksman Duo. This is preferred
in case the installation fails to
complete successfully. Click Next
to continue.

You must accept the license

agreement and click Next.

5. Next the software will begin installing the firmware. You will first see a green completion bar as the
installation identifies and build the correct files to load. Then, a command prompt window will
appear and begin sending the firmware to the controller. Shortly after this, Windows XP will likely
present a security alert indicating that bootp is trying to execute. You MUST click unblock to
continue.

6. Both the Marksman Duo

and the Command
Prompt windows will
begin transferring and
installing files. After a
few minutes, Windows
XP will likely present
another security alert.
You MUST click unblock
to continue. The system will continue to add commands to the Command Prompt window.

7. At the completion of the installation, the computer will indicate that

it has finished Click Finish to complete the setup.

The Marksman Duo should indicate that Application firmware has

be re-programmed.
