1 General information
This document specified only the requirements for coated heating tube for evaporator tray applied
in BSH product area Refrigeration.

All general requirements specified in BSH checking directive General requirements for parts
and components in cooling circuits 1 must be met, too.

All national and international standards and references given in Chapter 3 (in case of any) must be
considered. Suppliers must commit that they are familiar with content of these standards and
producing, testing accordingly.

2 Part specified requirements and tests

2.1 Base material
Currently BSH applies steel tube with zinc layer or cooper tube as base material for this
component, the detailed tube types are given below.

2.1.1 Steel tubes with zinc layer

Type DC04 with Zinc layer complying with DIN EN 1179 for Z3 alloy is to be applied. For tube of
diameter 4.76mm the max. allowed height of the welded seam is 0.3mm.

2.1.2 Copper tubes

Cu-DHP after DIN EN 12449

2.2 Requirements on applied coil materials

All applied coil material must have corresponding material certificate. Only tubes without leakage
are allowed to be applied for further production. To avoid leaky tubes being applied BSH requires
that the raw tubes must be tested according to DIN EN 1779 Non-destructive testing Leak
testing. Preferred methods: Bubble test C1 or Pressure decay test D1.

During production of cooper tubes the Eddy Current Test after DIN EN 1971 must be applied for
quality control.

For steel tubes, coils must be delivered with pressurized dry air (dew point max. -40 C) or 99.9%
dry nitrogen.

To avoid dirtiness, humidity etc. entering raw tubes, by delivery the coil ends must be sealed
airtight, hammered or with other means.

2.3 Requirements on coating

The coating quality is especially important on the tube area having direct contact with water. This
functional area is defined on the drawing and has to be errorless. Before performing tests
regarding coating, it must be ensured, that the coating is already fully cured.

2.3.1 Resistance to bending

This test might be performed according to DIN EN ISO 1519 Paints and varnishes - Bend test
(cylindrical mandrel) with mandrel diameter of D=30mm. After bending, the coating must show
no cracking or peeling.

2.3.2 Resistance to defrosting water

This test might be performed according to EN ISO 2812-2 Paints and varnishes - Determination
of resistance to liquids Part 2: Water immersion method under following conditions:
Test liquid: salt solution of 0.16 g NaCl per 1liter deionized water
Test conditions: 4 weeks at +60 C

After test the coating must show no exfoliation, cracks, blistering, swelling or softening and after
bending test according to previous section no cracks.

2.3.3 Resistance to high temperature

After storage for 4 weeks at 90C in an air circle oven the coating must show no exfoliation,
cracks, blistering, swelling, softening or similar, and after bending test as described previously
also no cracks.

2.3.4 Resistance to fruit acid

The fruit acid test is to be performed according to DIN EN ISO 9227.Test chamber and testing
process is the same. Only test liquid is different. The test liquid itself is to be prepared as
following:
Tartaric acid (C4H6O6): 5g
Citric acid (C6H8O7): 5g
Lactic acid (C3H6O3): 4mL
Acetic acid (C2H4O2): 2.5ml
Mix all the material above together and fill with demineralised water (H2O) up to 1000 ml
in total

After storage of the samples in this test liquid for 9 days at room temperature the coating must
show no exfoliation, cracks, blistering, swelling, softening or similar, and after bending test as
described previously also no cracks.

2.3.5 Appearance
The coating must be uniformly covering without any damages going down to the base material.
Defects such as pores and dirt inclusions, which may affect the corrosion resistance, are not
allowed, refer also DIN EN 13018 Non-destructive testing - Visual testing - General principles

2.3.6 Coating thickness

For BSH the function of the coating is important (the requirements listed in previous sections) but
not the coating thickness itself, therefore BSH has no direct specific requirements on coating
thickness; the actual thickness of coating is to be defined together with supplier. During release
process the coating thickness of the samples will be measured and documented by BSH. After
release process the coating thickness of the serial products must stay in the same range as the
released samples.

The layer thickness might be evaluated according to EN ISO 2808 Paints and varnishes -
Determination of film thickness. It must be measured at five measuring points on at least 3
samples. For every measuring point 3 individual measurements of the layer thickness must be
done. The mean of the individual measurements gives a measurement value for the measuring
point. The layer thickness and the measurement methods must be specified in the test report.
