8-1. Introduction
7-Nov-05 (14:42)

We have built a photovoltaic system with a capacity

of 1,082,160Wdc in Philippines by installing 6,480
photovoltaic modules, with 167W generation capacity
each.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

It is planned to connect the power generation facility

to a 13.8kV distribution system prepared by the
business operator CEPALCO where (refer to attached
Drawing 1 and 2.)

Procurement and Control of Materials

As some materials are not available locally, it may

take many days to obtain the materials.

Besides, the shipment may include many missing or

e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

defective materials. Therefore, make sure to perform

the acceptance test on the delivery.

7-Nov-05 (14:42) Land Preparation and Foundation Work

A large tract of land and well-developed roads

connected to the site are essential for the
development of a large-scale photovoltaic system.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

We divided the site into 3 blocks and set the ground

level during the foundation work. We provided
differences in the level, GL +600, GL +300 and
GL;+000 from east to west so that the ground soil can
be well drained (refer to attached Drawing 3).

7-Nov-05 (14:42)

Temporary Storage of Materials

Most of the materials are delivered by ship. In particular,

photovoltaic cells were shipped in 234 pallets. Stacked
storage being prohibited, it needed an area of 360m2 to
temporarily place the pallets flat.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

With no space for storage at the site, we rent a

warehouse nearby the port to store them and
transported the materials according to the progress of
the work on site.

7-Nov-05 (14:42) Assembly Work of Support Structure for Photovoltaic
Array

The support structure for the photovoltaic array

simply consists of assembled steel structure.

Slight distortion may cause a burden on the

e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

photovoltaic modules, which results in damage to the

modules.

Therefore, we performed the final tightening work by

carefully checking the diagonal size as well as the
vertical and horizontal dimensions of mounting holes
of the module.

7-Nov-05 (14:42)

Installation Work of Photovoltaic Modules

We inspected the photovoltaic array visually after the

installation of the photovoltaic modules. If there is any
difference in level, we inserted a liner between the support
structure for the array and the module to correct it.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

Finishing Work around Photovoltaic Array

We laid cobble stones below the photovoltaic array in

order to control weeds as less as possible. In addition,
it looks neat.

7-Nov-05 (14:42) Control Building

Since the room temperature reached 40Cin actual

condition, we added windows to increase the air intake.

After the increase of the windows, the peak room

e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

temperature was about 35 Cat the highest.

The design environmental condition for the equipment

ranged between 5 and 40 C.

7-Nov-05 (14:42)

On-site Adjustment of Equipment

The construction work of a photovoltaic system

requires on-site adjustment of Power Conditions and
other instruments. In case of equipment failure, in
particular abroad, it takes much time to solve the
problem.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

With this in mind, it is essential to perform on-site

adjustment of the equipment by the manufacturer.

In addition, people in charge of operating the

equipment should learn how to deal with the equipment
failure.

7-Nov-05 (14:42) On-site Tuning of Relay

It is important to establish the relay set points (e.g.,

over-voltage detection) which are suitable to the local
situation of electricity supply.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

In Japan, the setting is established based on the result

of the meeting with the utility in advance. However there
was no custom to have a meeting beforehand with the
utility in Philippines, we established the set values by
performing trial operation.

7-Nov-05 (14:42)

Backup Power Supply for Instruments in case of

Blackout

It is necessary to provide an uninterruptible power

supply for the instruments of the PV system as the
backup power supply in case of station blackout.
e7 / PPA Workshop on Renewable Energies

To provide the backup power supply in foreign

countries including Philippines, the uninterruptible
power supply should have a sufficient capacity
according to the importance of the equipment to be
supplied power.
