I am going to lead a matching/memory game with the children. I
will lay the cards face down on the carpet, and have the other
pieces in the childrens reach. The children will then take a piece
and read the number and try to pick the matching card that is
face down.
Objective:
1. The children will further develop their counting skills (4.12) by
counting up to the certain number on their chosen card.
2. The children will continue to enhance their problem solving
skills (4.2) by evaluating the outcome of their problem solving
skills, by remembering which cards they have already picked
up, where they were placed, and where else they can check for
their matching card.
3. The children will continue to develop their observation skills
(4.5) by focusing their observation on details, when focusing on
which pieces their friends picked up to remember their spots.
Materials:
- 1 set of spider number cards
- 1 set of the matching circle pieces
Implementation:
1. A group of 2-3 students will be chosen to come to this activity
during play time.
2. I will explain to the children what the game is and demonstrate
how to play.
3. I will then ask a child to take a turn and assist them until they
no longer require further assistance.
Teaching Strategies
1. Modelling
I will model how to play the game so the children can see what I
mean first hand.
2. Performing Task Analysis
I will break down the parts of the game step by step with the
children while showing them and them having turns to ensure they
are not overwhelmed with too many instructions at once.
