Greek category.

It looks that the first peripteral temples were rectangular wooden structures. The
various wood elements had considered divine, and their forms preserved in the
marble and stone elements of temples of the Doric order. And the Greeks used
standard types of it because they believed that the world of objects was a
sequence of typical forms which could represent in many instances. The temples
should be canonic, and the architects were trying to attain this esthetic
perfection. Source: Apollo Wiki

From the previous times, there were specific rules strictly experiential in
rectangular peripteral and pro-style buildings. The first buildings built narrowly to
hold the roof, and when the dimensions changed some mathematical relations
became essential to keep the original forms.

It perhaps influenced theory of the numbers of Pythagoras. Who believed that

behind the appearance of the things. There was also the permanent principle of
mathematics.

The Doric order dominated between the 5th and the 6th century BC, but there was
also a mathematical problem regarding the situation of the triglyphs. It Couldnt
solve without changing its natural forms.

The order almost discarded for the Ionic law, but the Ionic capital also posed an
unsolvable problem at the corner of a temple. Source: Apollo Wiki
