Individual Data Analysis

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPGcPQSgm-c&feature=youtu.be

Throughout the collective literature reviews regarding Collaborative Learning within the

classroom are predominately a positive teaching pedagogy to be utilised within the

classroom. The literature reviews predominately highlight how collaborative learning have

the power to and has enhanced a students social skills, enhance higher order thinking and

improve results. However Collaborative Learning can only be successful if implemented

properly within the classroom.

Through the collective data analysis on the topic of CL through the method of surveys were

that high majority of participants agreed that Collaborative Learning plays a significant role

in student learning. When designing the close-ended questions, the questions were designed

to capture clear data. The questions were also formatted in a sense that CL is a positive

strategy. When data was collected, nearly all participants selected Agree and Neutral.

This was also the case in the open-ended questions that were designed to ask in-depth

questions such as experiences and perspectives. High majority supported CL and had positive

experiences alike in the literature reviews. A high percentage believed their negative

experiences were also alike in the literature review such effecting performance, bad results

and reliability of other members when performing tasks/assignments. However, overall

comments further supported CL but also suggested improvements such as more scaffolding

and teacher involvement.

When analysing the quantitative data in the close questions in the survey I calculated the

results using the likert scale. I was able to find the numeric average of a number of values

when I did this for every question. An example of how I calculated results is shown below:

1. Using Collaborative Learning in the classroom creates better learning

opportunities?

1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,3,3

= 33

33 divided by 20= 1.65

Overall it was apparent that participants agreed on the positive aspects on Collaborative

Learning in the classroom.

When coding the open-ended questions In the survey, I found various themes that the

participants had in common as well as common to the literature reviews findings. Majority of

the students highlighted common themes when asked the type of CL they experiences, their

positive experiences, negative experiences and overall comments. What I was able to

highlight through the open ended questions What are your overall comments on

Collaborative Learning? Please include perspectives, alterations to the pedagogy, is it a

positive strategy to use in the classroom etc I was able to code the following major themes:

- Implementation and teacher involvements

- CL Positive pedagogy

- CL works effectively depending on task

- Helps overall skills

Themes that I had found through all the open-ended questions were:

- CL improves student engagement and skills

Al Amira Dounia Ayoubi 17631307

- Participants believe it should be practiced in the classroom

- Teacher involvement is important

- ICT was used/ helped keep on task (work collaboratively-engaging)

- Negative factor-students dont contribute equally

- Can effect performance (positively, negatively)

Group Contribution Name: Al Amira Dounia Ayoubi

Explain your contribution to the group:

How did you contribute to:

Identifying group and individual topics?

We all had helped each other come up with the questions and subtopics. I had asked feedback
from my peers and also I gave them feedback on their questions. I helped research different
sources and help come up with the topic

Developing and implementing the intervention?

We all synthesized our findings. We all mind mapped different ideas on a white board and
discussed the intervention. We had all contributed in making the slides, the script and how to
present this section. I gave ideas, mind-mapped and helped write script.

Collecting and analyzing preliminary data?

I collected using survey and then displayed the results using pie graphs, likert chart and
coding the open ended questions into themes. by collecting and analysing data I was able to
contribute to the group to compare and contrast to other member research results. This also
helped creating our new research action proposal.

Developing the research presentation?

We had a meeting and drew up all our ideas on the board and linked all out ideas together to
form out question and research action. We then created a powerpoint and we all contributed
to different section and tasks of planning and creating it.

How did you interact with the other group members?

All members interacted easily and effectively with eachother, which made it all easier. I did
not know all members that well but this assignment had allowed me to get to know the group
members more which further allowed me to have good communication with the members.
We had a group chat where we discussed the assignment, planning when and where to meet
up to work on our assignment and sent photos of our work to reflect on and to receive
feedback.
