ThistestisdonetodeterminethebitumencontentasperASTM2172.Theapparatusneededtodeterminebitumencontentare
i)Centrifugeextractor
ii)Miscellaneousbowl,filterpaper,balanceandcommercialbenzene.
Asampleof500gistaken.

Proceduretodeterminebitumencontent
i)Ifthemixtureisnotsoftenoughtoseparatewithatrowel,place1000gofitinalargepanandwarmupto100oCtoseparatetheparticlesofthemixture
uniformly.

ii)Placethesample(WeightA)inthecentrifugeextractor.Coverthesamplewithbenzene,putthefilterpaperonitwiththecoverplatetightlyfittedon
thebowl.

iii)Startthecentrifugeextractor,revolvingslowlyandgraduallyincreasethespeeduntilthesolventceasestoflowfromtheoutlet.

iv)Allowthecentrifugeextractortostop.Add200mlbenzeneandrepeattheprocedure.

v)Repeattheprocedureatleastthrice,sothattheextractisclearandnotdarkerthanthelightstrawcolourandrecordthevolumeoftotalextractinthe
graduatedvessel.

vi)Removethefilterpaperfromthebowlanddryintheovenat110+5oC.After24hours,taketheweightoftheextractedsample(WeightB).
