Sunday, November 12, 2017 Twenty-Second Sunday After Pentecost

A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

How Do You Talk To The Omnipotent?

Psalm 119:17-27
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. If you were to open
your Bible and begin reading this Psalm aloud it would probably take
you fifteen minutes to read the entire 176 verses!

I wont be reading all of Psalm 119 but there is tucked away in this
work of profound truth - a small passage that focuses on praying
(talking) with God! We have a lesson from King David on how we can
engage our Creator in conversation.

I hope you can join us Sunday I believe we will all leave with a new
appreciation on praying and knowing The Omnipotent hears!

See you at 10 AM for Sunday Worship!

Beginning June 11th (Trinity Sunday) and until
November 19th the altar Colors are green,
symbolizing the renewal of vegetation and generally
of living things and the promise of new life!

Our suggested Scripture reading for November 12th, from the 2017
UCC Church Calendar:

Matthew 25:1-13 (NLT)

Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids

25 Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids took their
lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and
five were wise. 3 The five who were foolish didnt take enough olive oil for
their lamps, 4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra
oil. 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell
asleep. 6 At midnight they were roused by the shout, Look, the bride-
groom is coming! Come out and meet him!

7 All
the bridesmaids got up and
prepared their lamps. 8 Then the
five foolish ones asked the
others, Please give us some of
your oil because our lamps are
going out. 7 All the bridesmaids
got up and prepared their lamps.
8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others, Please give us some of your
oil because our lamps are going out. 9 But the others replied, We dont
have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.
10 But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those

who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was
locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood
outside, calling, Lord! Lord! Open the door for us! 12 But he called back,
Believe me, I dont know you! 13 So you, too, must keep watch! For you
do not know the day or hour of my return.

Veterans Day Sunday November 12th

November 11, 2017, is the official Veterans Day Holiday a

day intended to honor and thank all military personnel who
served the United States in all wars.

On Sunday, we will take a few minutes in our Morning

Worship to pray, thank, and remember all who served our
country. Thank you, Veterans!
Tragedy in Texas
The sound of hymns drifted from the country church in Texas. Then
came the gunfire.

Last week, a mad gun burst into the First Baptist Church of
Sutherland Springs, Texas. What happened next was horrific. The
images and the reporting of this event have touched us all. And like
you, I have prayed for the grieving families, and I have wondered
about our church. Could this horror be repeated in Dearborn?

We must be prepared to protect our congregation against imminent

threats. And so, this past week the Diaconate Committee and Board
of Trustees approved a security plan.

Beginning Sunday, November 12th, we are implementing a new policy

for Sunday Worship. Five minutes after the Morning Worship begins,
ushers will lock the front and side entrance doors to our building.
This action will not prevent anyone in the Sanctuary or hallway from
exiting but it will stop any suspicious or dangerous individual from
entering.

One Usher will remain in the narthex, monitoring the parking lot,
entrance doors, and surrounding areas of our building. They will act
on the side of caution, alerting the Pastor and congregation, should
any suspicious activity take place on church grounds.

In Matthew 10:16, Jesus told his disciples: Look, I am sending you

out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and
harmless as doves.

We will do everything possible in making Dearborn Congregational

Church a safe place of peace, security and blessed worship.

Im looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Come, expecting a

blessing!

Pastor Bill
