INTRODUCTION

Nursing is defined to be an interaction of attitude, knowledge and skills, among which attitude is
foremost because with the right attitude comes the desire for knowledge, which in turn is demonstrated
through psychomotor skills. Nurses know that psychomotor skills are important but, performed without
knowledge, they do not constitute nursing. Nursing knowledge of health and disease processes is of little
use without appropriate nursing skills to implement appropriate actions. The abilities to plan and
organize work are of little benefit to patients or clients if the attitudes that nurses value (such as, caring
and patience) are not present; therefore, integration of the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes of
nursing is the essential key to understanding and performing competencies.

Clinical learning experience is indeed a hard experience for the nursing students who need to perform
their duties and responsibilities diligently and competently in order to render quality service among the
nursing students. The researchers, a clinical instructors with years experience in supervising the
students, is interested in knowing whether the exposure in clinical area can enhance the students
learning skills.

RELATED LITERATURE

1. According to a research from Harvard by Roland Fryer (2011), time has a great impact on
academic outcomes of a student. In his research, he included many traditional measures like
teachers credentials and class size and they found that those factors had only weak correlations
with student achievement. Instead, his research determined that instructional timemeasured
as the time students were actually engaged in learning.

2. There is an evidence that feedback is an essential component of the student learning process for
effective student learning in clinical practice. It is important for the students maturity because it
renders direction and help in boosting confidence, motivation and self-esteem. There are factors
that influence the confidence of student nurses that range from attaining competence skills to
achieving relevant and good communication with patients, relatives and health team members.
The achievement of competence in a skill enables the student to develop personal and
professional confidence and develop their identity as a nurse (Bembridge and Jeong, 2012). The
researchers want to explore whether this is adequate or perhaps can be enhanced for the
students to improve their skills in this important area of nursing practice.
