Rockwall Center Lesson Plan Template for Formal Observations

Projected Length of the Lesson: 30-45 minutes.

Learning Objective (Learning Intention)


The student will be able to classify objects by properties.

Science
(1.5 A) Classify objects by observable properties such as larger and smaller, heavier and lighter, share, color,
and texture.

Criteria for Success (How will you know if students master the learning objective? How will students know they were successful?)
I will know the students have mastered the learning objective when they can use their senses to describe the
carved and uncarved pumpkin.

Students will know their mastery by:


1. Being able to describe the senses they are using.
Relevance/Real World Application (Can your students explain to someone WHAT they are learning and WHY?)
We are learning how to use our senses with a real world object.

Class Information
One of the students wears hearing aids, the teacher wears a microphone while he is the room so that he can
clearly here the instructions.

Students will describe the senses they used at the fair.
2. Assessing understanding during the lesson:
Students will be using their senses while exploring the pumpkin.
3. Assessing mastery after the lesson:
Students will be able to explain the difference between the carved and uncarved pumpkin.

Introductory Activity/Opening:
The class with review the five senses and which ones they used at the fair.
Information Giving:
The teacher will give instruction on what to do with the uncarved pumpkin.

The teacher will carve the pumpkin and scoop out the inside.
Guided Practice:
The students will explain how they are using their senses with the pumpkin.
