Earthquake in Mexico 2017

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Mexico on Tuesday (19/09/2017),

until Wednesday (20/09/2017) noon Indonesia has claimed 224 lives. Based on
the latest data reported by AFP, the death toll included 117 people who were
victims in the Capital City of Mexico City. The statement was delivered by
Interior Minister Miguel Osorio Chong.

Previously also reported, 21 children were killed when a primary school

building collapsed due to earthquake shocks, Tuesday (19/09/2017). "We get
reports, there are 25 deaths, including 21 children, and four adults, at Enrique
Rebsamen Elementary School." Mexico's Deputy Secretary-General of Education
Javier Trevino told Televisa network.

The number of deaths continues to increase, due to a magnitude 7.1 earthquake

that hit central Mexico on Tuesday night local time. The death toll from the
earthquake in Mexico rose to 224, among them 117 in the capital city of Mexico
City. Mexican Interior Minister Miguel Osoria Chong said the death toll is
expected to continue to grow. At least 22 children were killed buried in the ruins
of a collapsed primary school building in the southern part of the capital.

The quake hit the central part of Mexico just on the anniversary of the
devastating 1985 earthquake in Mexico City that killed about 10,000 people.
President Enrique Pena Nieto declares his country in a state of emergency
disaster. Rescue teams have been deployed to all areas and locations affected by
the disaster. "So we can continue to provide assistance to the residents and find
survivors under the rubble," he said through a video statement.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake that devastated

Mexico magnitude 7.1 on the Richter Scale. Mexico's seismological body
recorded 11 aftershocks. The collapsed buildings in the capital include apartment
buildings, schools, factories and supermarkets. Through Twitter, US President
Donald Trump said the United States "will attend" for Mexico. The UN also
expressed its condolences and is ready to help Mexico.

Early reports of the US Geological Survey placed the epicenter at 2.8

kilometers (4.5 kilometers) northeast of San Juan Raboso and 34.1 miles (55 km)
south-southwest of the city of Puebla, according to the USGS. The quake struck at
a depth of about 33 miles (51 km). Up to now, there have been no direct reports of

coordinate any action. "He admitted he was flying to Oaxaca and decided to go to
Mexico to resolve the situation after the earthquake.
