The children will (Belonging and Contributing: 22.1) communicate their ideas about something as they explore and manipulate the bottles, and engage in conversation about what they think to their peers. In addition, when I ask open ended questions about the bottles, the children will be able to communicate their different ideas to me in a group setting. (The Kindergarten Program, 2016, pg. 137).
Implementation:
1. I will create the sensory bottles at home.
2. I will bring them into the classroom. 3. I will place them on a small table during free centers, and leave them out all day. 4. I will sit with the children and ask open ended questions, as well as answer any questions they may have. 5. I will leave the sensory bottles in the class for future use.
Teaching Strategies:
Environmental cues: I will use environmental cues so that the
children can freely explore the sensory bottles with no expectations. I will place them on the table with 5 chairs around it, as this will encourage children to understand that there should be only 5 children at the table at once.
Questions: Once the children have seen and manipulated the
bottles, I will step in and ask open ended questions to further exploration. For example, what colour is the water? What are those little objects in the bottle? What does the cotton ball filled bottle look like? These questions will allow the children to actively think about the bottles and inevitably further their learning.
