NFL kneeling

TRT- 00:00-1:47

Host Intro:

Colin Kaepernick a player for the NFL who use to be a backup quarterback for the San Francisco

49ers started the protest of sitting during the national anthem in August 2016. Kaepernick reason

for sitting is he said I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that

oppresses black people and people of color; This is a bigger issue than football and me. He

kneeled to avoid the perception that he was disrespecting military veterans. President Trump

made plenty of comments against the NFL. One comment said wouldnt you like to see one of

the owners, when somebody disrespects our flag and say they're fired, there fired. This gained

other team's attention and players including coaches started to take a stand.

Patrick Levine an alumni of Kean University agrees with Kaepernick.

Patrick Levine In-Cue:

I agree with Colin Kaepernick stand to take a knee against the flag

Patrick Levine Out-Cue:

Protesting the way people are treated in the country

Host Transition:
There are many players locking arms and speaking out against the protest for police brutality and

racism. There are some people who agree strongly with Kaepernick making a statement but then

there are those who disagree. The people who will say there taking a stand against football and

will not watch it. Geraldine Thompson opposes the kneeling.

Geraldine In-Cue:

I oppose the players kneeling during the national anthem simply and slowly because

Geraldine Out-Cue:

Outside of what the league requires them to become community involved

Host Close:

This is a strong topic for people around the world because for some such as Kaepernick its close

to the heart. For others its disrespecting the nation's flag not viewing the bigger picture.

Kaepernick is still a free agent because of him protesting. People are going to have their opinions

and this is an ongoing protest which continues to week 9.

Sound Bites

Patrick Levine

I agree with Colin Kaepernick to take a knee against the flag because I dont think he is

disrespecting the flag. I think he is exercising a right that he has to protest. There are veterans

from the army who understand that he is not disrespecting them I think a lot of people see it as he

is just disrespecting the flag. Its bigger than that he is protesting the way people are treated in the
country. There are people like I guess you could say police officers who disrespect the flag every

time they go out and abuse someone because they take an oath. When they take that oath they are

taking an oath to help people and when they're violating that oath obviously there in a way

disrespecting the flag. No one has a problem with that cops like that, there has been so many

instances cops have been found innocent of things that were like huge cases or issues in our

community and it has not really been addressed. I do agree he should be able to protest any way

he want to, he does not need to sit down. He does not have his helmet on that would be

disrespectful but he takes a knee.

Geraldine Thompson

I oppose the players kneeling during the national anthem simply and slowly because this is a

nation that is built on freedoms. Each one of them have afforded their freedoms because of that

flag. I believe that if they're choosing to kneel for a cause that they should set up foundations

become more community involved outside of what the league requires of them to be community

involved so that they can assist. Like the project where they assist those that are in prison and

getting out of prison that have been wrongfully accused. There is a number men and women of

color that are incarcerated much longer caucasian counterparts. Simply because of affordability

to attorney so i think there are causes they can put that to because suspended and giving up 322-

thousand-dollars a game for a community and its functions. They afforded their rights simply

and slowly because of that flag and what this nation stands for.
