The Songs of Yig

Cthulhu Mythos Poetry of Yig

by POETS from ALLPOETS, and
EDITED by ALLEN MACKEY

Editor's Note: Yig, of course, is one of the Great Old Ones created by
horror writer H. P. Lovecraft in a ghost-written tale for Zelia Bishop
called "The Curse of Yig" and published in Weird Tales in November,
1929. Yig is the Father of Serpents and I recently found the following
poems dedicated to Him on the website Allpoetry. So here is this
unauthorized collection of verses.

The term "Yigian" was first used by an author named

"Enumbisag" who may or may not be James Campbell in The Book of
Azag-Thoth. It seems to be used as a group term for the Children of
Yig. (An extra letter "g" was added for distinctive style.) Yiggorum is
another name for the Children of Yig, one first used by Marvel
Comics.

INTRODUCTION: "THE SONGS OF YIG"

This is a brief collection of all the YIG-related verses that can now be
found on the ever-expanding website Allpoetry. From all stripes and
hues had come the Ophidians with their resounding Songs of Praise
and Terror! HEAR THESE WORDS.

And, sadly, I cannot properly credit most of these poets from

Allpoetry due to the fact that most use pseudonyms. There is one
notable exception however: The song lyrics by the metal band GWAR
for the song "Horror of Yig", which is also included in this small
collection of Yiggian Verses. Another exception is the inclusion of my
own poem, "Fangs of Yig", which was written especially for this
collection.

One poem that should be included but is not is Ron Shiflet's "In
Praise of Yig." It was published in Dark Legacy: The Poetry, edited
by Ran Cartwright.

By the way, the term "Yig and Yag" has been taken by some to
mean "good and evil."

The Serpent Men by Mad Poet

The legendary Serpent Men,

Who ruled this Earth before our rise.

Versed in the arts of eldritch science,

Alchemy, and Sorcery;

The cold-blooded savants reigned.

And in these days, they all vanished.

So great a fall to so mighty a race?

And which reminds me of the beings of Mnar,

Who were driven off, pushed into the Lake.

A man's early mastery;

Of the arts of warfare,

Doting upon our ancestors

Cleaning fair Hyperborea.

The breed of walking serpents

Did bring about their doom;

By the practice of sorceries

Alchemies, unleashing dread powers.

It was the shifting of the great Sun

That robbed the serpents of heat

Eibon of Mhu Thulan.

Like unto the Ouroboros,

The mouth seizeth upon the tail;

Dominating the whole disk of Earth.

The Sacred Serpents by Mad Poet

The children of Yig,

The Sacred Serpents;

Local venomous species,

White crescents on their head.

Anti-venom does not exist,

For a sacred snake of Yig.

Le Serpent by Noctiferhoytep
The sands of Time will always sink;

The Serpent is the coiled truth;

Fear not for honour, love, or pain.

Bright memories begin to blink,

Since not again will ye have youth!

The sands of Time will always sink.

Let lessons, longings, wane or wink -

Regret them not, remain aloof;

Fear not for honour, love, or pain.

The purpose of your pains to think:

To seek fulfilments scant behoof;

The sands of Time will always sink.

Let landscapes in the silence slink,

Or burn below this shadeless roof;

Fear not for honour, love, or pain.

Thus emptinessll be your drink,

And sorrows shadow, your shaduf.

The sands of Time will always sink;

Fear not for honour, love, or pain.

Author's Notes:

The serpent is a symbol of aversion ("biting") caused by losing what

we desire. This piece is about letting go.

Everything becomes the sand of Time, so nothing matters

(apart from letting go). Moreover, desire for things we cannot have
(e.g. love) creates "heat" from which we must shelter.

Line 10 suggests that emotional pain is the impetus for realising

the nature of life. Fulfilment/satisfaction never lasts, so we just have
to accept it.

The Protective Circle by Yidhra

By the light of Nyarlathotep.

Born of my desire for Becoming,

Open the Gates of the Dead

To protect my very being of spirit and flesh.

Noctifer observe!
By the light of Azazel,

Who brought the Knowledge of the Serpent,

Protect me of the kin of Witchblood;

For I am Yidhra: The Lonely One.

By the call of Yig

May the Knowledge be revealed.

By the desire of my many forms

Shall be passed from the grave to life.

Yog-Sothoth, allow the stars to align

May the Dead hear my call.

Before me Nyarlathotep;

Behind me Cthulhu;

On my right hand Yog-Sothoth;

On my left hand Shub-Niggurath;

For about me flames the Pentagram,

And in the Column the seven-rayed star of BABALON!

The Dream-Serpent by Mad Poet

A snake was hissing,

Dreams were upon me.

Yig, are thou there?

Seeing me, viewing me.

The Dragon Warriors of Yig by Mad Poet

Dragon Warriors of Yig,

Created by Himself!

Bound to a strange idol,

Being 11 Dragon Warriors.

Kingu, the first;

Was a winged serpent man.

Boresh, the second;

Was a winged bull.

Ssrushii, the third;

Was a serpent man.

Choara, the fourth;

Had the body of a scorpion.

Nergal, the sixth;

Was a humanoid lion.

Faret, the seventh;

Was mute and a minotaur.

Humhabku, the eighth;

Largest of the Dragon Warriors.

Kallich, the ninth;

An enormous vulture-like bird.

Dra'aka, the tenth;

A beautiful woman.

Amnuris, the eleventh;

With the head of a wolf.

And Maruya, the extra;

Was a winged stag.

Is this merely a legend?

Or the tale of another's plane past?

Yig, The Deadly Snake by Yshotha

Yig went out of my head,

wasn't I so sad?

In me male and female snake,

O Yig, please don't be awake.

Fastly in the car they put me

O let dead not have me!

But dead again I went,

this is what Nyarlathotep meant.

O in anger and wrath I don't want to be,

a female snake in each human you see.

So Tawil took them all out,

and dropped to the floor humans about.

Zombies were left on the Earth

everything dead, everything burned.

Ghosts, robotic humans by aliens controlled,

this story was never before told...

Visions of Yig.

Yoth by Mad Poet

Red-litten Yoth,

Blue-litten K'n-yan.

Its natives have passed on,

Only ruins and remnants.

On Yoth Life was created,

For their industry and transport;

Grotesque living things

For their amusement.

On Yoth only reptilians,

Reptile-like quadrupeds.

Worshiping Tsathoggua,

By raiding N'kai learned well

Lying beneath red-litten Yoth.

S'lithik Hhai: X'hyl the Apothecary by Sicky666

After the Golden Age by Mad Poet

Chaos should not cease

To dominate the world.

O yes, Nyarlathotep;

Will rule!

No wish for harmony,

Of its Golden Age;

It was before the Fall.

Reveling in constant disorder,

But Yog-Sothoth prefers reason;

Giving His first allegiance

To the Daemon Sultan: Azathoth

Remembering old times of this God.

Cthulhu does side with Him,

But Yig supports Yog-Sothoth;

As Father Serpent of the Cosmos,

Who invented this very world...

Yog-Sothoth has sympathy,

As Dagon; the Deep One Lord

And not even he can say

What will happen when there remains

A Princess restored on Her throne,

A Princess on Ebony Bone.

The Ring of Five Dragons by Darkqueen00

Five Dragons to rule them all

Forged in the elemental cauldron

of My Goddess.

A precious ring, made of

Priceless jade, and intricately

Decorated with the likenesses of

The five Dragons- My

Goddess' Sacred five Dragons.

There was Seelin,

Dragon of water and

Transformation;

Eshir, Dragon of air

and Forgiveness;

Gom, Dragon of earth and

Renewal; Yig, Dragon of

fire and Power;

and then there was Poaw,

Dragon of wood and Vision.

All five Dragons,

With all 0 sacred energies and

elements are

finally mine to control.

I knew this day would come, I

Just had to be patient.

But now the Precious has found

me and I have reign over My

Goddess' creations.

The prophesy of the end

Has been fufilled;

The prophesy of the

Beginning is just starting

To unfold.

Five Dragons to rule them all

Forged in the elemental cauldron

of My Goddess....

and they are mine....

ok...i was watching Lord of the Rings and found out I had a little
empath in me who persuaded me to write this. I felt for Gollum when
he lost the ring...so I wrote this...I dont care if you think it sucks...I
LIKE IT!!! hehe...the Precious....

Fangs of Yig by Allen Mackey

O Great Yig! Arise and issue forth your venom

Upon [name], whom is cursed by actions to the

Wallowing moments of agonized death by the

Fangs of Yig! Show no mercy, Father of Serpents!

Horror of Yig (lyrics) by GWAR

"Horror is a face, and you must make a friend of horror horror and
moral terror are your friends and they are not. That they are your
enimies the horror."

[from "Apocalypse Now"]

I saw Yig. Yig saw me.

We're together in dark concavity.

I saw Yig. He's so big. He smokes cigs.

Eats just like a pig.

Ooooohhhhhh! I saw Yig. I saw Yig. I saw, I saw Yig!

Yig now is shifting his gibbering mass.

He hides boils with maggots.

The pus-sac extrudes.

The horror that is Yig...

When he rapes your mind, your mind will snap like a twig.

Shaping and raping, his conscience is clear.

Infest - black death.

Spreads hate and foul cheer.

The horror, The HORROR!

Where Yig doth tread no man tread tomorrow.

Reeking death harvest of humans in hatred.

Suck on the shitbag of what you created,

What we created. Yig now in coming, Yig now is here.

Yig now he makes things impossibly queer.

Piles of maggots

Clouds of flies

Putrid breath

And bulging eyes.

Yig comes and you die, you all die.

Yig And Yog by Clive Blake

There were two bottles of milk

Their names Yig and Yog,

Who planned a daring escape

In the early morning fog.

Forced to become cereal killers,

The mere thought; made their white blood curdle,

As they struggled to free themselves

From their plastic milk-crate girdle.

Yig said to Yog:

'If you make it to the newspapers,

Tell 'em everything that's passed-your-eyes,

How the TV adverts with the happy bottles

Are all just propaganda - lies.'

They managed to wriggle free of the crate,

And they then jumped off the float,

Even though the other bottles s-creamed:

'No! ... be careful! ... Don't! '

They hit the road with an awful smash, and

Then rolled out of control in the dirt,

The next day... the news headlines read:

YIG DEAD and YOG HURT.
