MGC4013 ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Sem I, 2017/2018
Assignment Instructions*

A. A PROFILE OF AN ENTREPRENEUR
This is an individual effort to study a profile of successful entrepreneur. You are to
interview an entrepreneur who has been in business at least for five years. Explore
his/her (i) motivation (why does he/she become entrepreneur?), (ii) characteristics (what
are the entrepreneurial characteristics that make him/her successful?), (iii) skills and
abilities (what are the skills and abilities required to execute a business idea?), (iv)
challenges (what are the problems and threats of his/her venture?). Report should be
around 8 10 pages, A4 sized paper and double spacing. This task carries 10% of the
course evaluation. Submit your work after mid-term break.

B. ENTREPRENEURIAL PROCESS AND BUSINESS BUILDING TASK

The main objective of this course is to gain experience of being an entrepreneur. Thus
you have to demonstrate that you have gone through the entrepreneurial process.
Please refer to page 48, Figure 1.3; Basic Model of Entrepreneurial Process (Barringer
and Ireland, 2016) as a framework of your report. The report should include four
components namely;
- Decision to become an entrepreneur (state the meeting decisions when you first
form a group)
- Developing successful business idea (how you recognise opportunities and
generate ideas).
- Moving from an idea to entrepreneurial organisation/firm (writing a business plan;
implement the plan).
- Managing and growing an entrepreneurial firm (reporting your evaluation of the
implemented project).
For this task you are to work in a group formed for your iCEPT project. The
entrepreneurial process and building the business strategies are based on your iCEPT
project.

You may use a specific format that is relevant to your purpose of preparing the business
plan. Business Plan Outline in Barringer and Ireland (2016) Chapter 6 is adequate for
this exercise. The Business Plan is expected of about 30 pages (minimum) sized A4,
font 12, with 1.5 spacing. This task is worth 40% of the course evaluation.

C. BUSINESS REPORT AND PRESENTATION

Upon completion of your Business Project you are to present your Business Report to
your Supervisor. The Report is actually including the four business functions of your
actual business event namely the Marketing, Operation, Finance and the Human
Resource. Discuss the differences between the planned and the actual happening.
Your group is given 30 minutes to present your Report and another 30 minutes for
questions and answers. The Report should be in power point (ppt) slides of not less than
10 slides, and should be handed to your Supervisor. It is valued at 10% as an individual
presentation.

Thank you.
