LESSON SELF-REFLECTION

Name: Jenna L. Jusits Date: 10/23/2017

Lesson Topic: Commutative Property Subject/Topic: Mathematics

Grade Level: 2nd Time: 1:10 to 2:10 Class Size: 21

What went as you had planned and why?

The whole lesson went pretty much as planned. I usually run my math
lessons really long, and have been trying really hard to keep them within
the time slot. I actually ran a little short with this lesson, even though it Commented [J1]: 3e: Demonstrating Flexibility and
Responsiveness
didnt matter because I had planned on a game/activity at the end, so
the kids just had additional time to play that Doubles Matching Game.
I was really happy with the review at the beginning, as it proved that the
students have been learning what Ive been teaching. Commented [J2]: 3c: Engaging Students in
Instruction.
I also thought the change in setting and transition from whole group to
individual to small group work went really well.

What did not go as planned and why?

I could have taken more time at the beginning for examples, had I known
that the kids would do so well with the lesson and it would be shorter in
time frame that anticipated (by a few minutes, so not too much).

What did you notice about the students learning behaviors and
responses?
Students are more likely to volunteer their answers if they know
they will be rewarded with a clip up (classroom management).

What would you do differently the next time you teach this lesson?

I might have started the lesson on the rug, just to change the
setting and have the kids moving/transitioning more. Also,
knowing that I had more time to play with, I might have included
a hands on craft to show the commutative property. Commented [J3]: 3c: Engaging Students in Learning.
